As you might expect, this character is the game’s main boss, but there’s a twist. You can’t fight them until after you’ve defeated Azra and seen the credits roll.

Absolum is widely considered the hardest boss in the game, and you’ll encounter them after completing a fresh playthrough. To make things even more challenging, you can also choose to activate Rifts during your run, adding an extra level of difficulty.

No matter your approach, Absolum, the final boss in this roguelike game, will always be the ultimate test. This guide covers everything you need to know to defeat this tentacled God – from the optimal way to reach it, to strategies for winning, and the rewards you’ll receive.

Best Path to Absolum

You’ll find Absolum at the very end of the game, and I suggest taking the same route as you did for Azra. Ultimately, the best path depends on which bosses you feel most confident facing with your current character build.

Here’s a rundown of all the bosses you’ll face, and how to find them. There are a lot, but by now you should have a pretty good sense of what to expect.

  • The Mushtroll — As soon as you begin your journey, head down to the bottom right of the screen, and you’ll find a boulder blocking a path. Destroy it, and the Mushtroll should be in the next few areas.
  • Gazorg, Son of Zorg — Head along the bottom path at the camp past the Mushtroll. You’ll run into Gazorg shortly after.
  • The Underking — The final boss of Grandery that you’ll have to face before heading out to the other continents.
  • Zafari, the Bandit Queen — You can face her by breaking the locked door on her boat and then stealing some of her treasure.
  • The Dead Guardians — Once you’ve unlocked Yeldrim, you can head there any time you reach Zarafi’s boat. From the haven in Yeldrim, take the bottom path, and you’ll run into them.
  • Morta Mima, the Silver Queen — The final boss of Yeldrim if you follow the path for the Dead Guardians. She’ll be the last obstacle in your way before Asterios.
  • Azra, the Sun King — He’ll be your last stop in your journey to face God.

How to Beat Absolum

This is by far the longest battle in the game, with multiple stages and a lot to learn. The fight starts with an instant-kill attack from Absolum unless you’ve saved a Mother’s Grace to protect you.

Just when you think you’ve defeated Absolum, expect even greater challenges ahead. This powerful being won’t surrender easily, so it’s crucial to be ready for the intense battles to come.

It doesn’t seem like Absolum’s guard can be broken, although it may be possible with enough skill.

Phase One

This enemy won’t be overly aggressive right now. It will mainly attack with quick, slashing moves at close range, so it’s best to stay a bit further away.

The video and chart below explain the attacks, but be warned – understanding them won’t necessarily make things any simpler.

Attacks Descriptions Dodge, Deflect, or Clash
Downward Slice They raise one of their arm-like appendages and then slice downward. Deflect or Clash
Spinning Slice They raise both sides up and then thrust them out in a circular pattern around them. Red Indicator attack. Dodge or Clash
Big Swipe They raise an arm and swipe down in front of them, knocking you to the opposite side of the arena. Deflect or Clash
Spinning Ball They’ll move to the left side of the area and send out waves, then dash forward. Red Indicator attack. Clash
Wave Slam They rise into the air and off the screen, then crash down on top of your location, sending out waves. Deflect
Spinning Tops They summon four small balls that will land near you one at a time and spin, causing damage and knockback. Dodge

Phase Two

When you get their health very low, the enemy will restart the battle and gain new attacks. They also have an ability that makes them temporarily invulnerable, which can be frustrating, but they can’t attack while it’s active.

This video and phase are rather short, as the next phase breaks this phase into two parts.

Attacks Descriptions Dodge, Deflect, or Clash
Red Slice Slices the area in front of them on one side. Deflect or Clash
Whirlwind Slice Raises head up and makes a small animation before thrusting down, causing a large AoE. Dodge or Clash
Invulnerable Dash Becomes invulnerable, leaving behind afterimages, and will randomly dash to you and attack. Dodge or Deflect
Red Spinning Ball Like the original version, but this time leaves behind Red Indicator balls that will explode after a short delay. Dodge

Phase Three

Absolum crashes onto the platform, destroying it and sending you forward to the next level. While they don’t learn any new attacks, they’ll now use all of their existing abilities, making the fight significantly harder.

This challenge will require constant effort and resilience, as the obstacles will keep coming. The video below will give you an idea of what to expect.

Absolum Rewards

Defeating Absolum only rewards you with in-game currency and an achievement. After you win, the game is truly over, and any future playthroughs will start before this final battle.

Feel free to share your high score with friends and see who can beat it, though there isn’t a formal leaderboard yet. Defeating Absolum with one character simply unlocks another for your next playthrough.
