Action Games With The Best Movement

Kratos, the main character in the God of War series, is incredibly powerful – he’s actually a god by the second game. He’s a large, muscular figure who can wield various weapons and even physically tear enemies apart. However, as the games progress, Kratos becomes even more massive, sacrificing speed for brute strength.

Action games often focus on either strength or speed. For example, Kratos is known for his incredible power, while other games prioritize quickness and agility. These games feature characters who can move rapidly, have lots of traversal options, or are skilled at dodging, making them very adaptable.

Honorable mentions: Vanquish, Titanfall 2, Control, Warframe, Ghostrunner, Forspoken, and Gravity Rush.

Batman: Arkham City

In The Shadows

Even though Batman is large and powerfully built, he’s incredibly agile in Batman: Arkham City and throughout the Arkham series. Moving around the city feels fantastic, especially when you master the combination of grappling hook and gliding to explore Gotham.

You can also climb and swing through buildings using rafters, moving from handhold to handhold. From above, you can then pull enemies down – it’s a fun and effective way to get around that always feels satisfying.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Flick And Swish

Spider-Man is known for being incredibly agile, even more so than Batman, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 lets you play as two different Spider-Men. Using their Spider-Sense, players can easily dodge attacks and fight back as both Peter and Miles.

Players can also quickly web onto walls for a moment of respite if combat gets too intense, adding to their strategic options. And, like all of Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, swinging and gliding through the city feels fantastic.

Attack On Titan (2016)

Kill The Titans

Hornet, the player character in Hollow Knight: Silksong, is quicker and more agile than The Knight was in Hollow Knight, making battles feel more fast-paced and challenging.

Hornet’s initial sword isn’t very powerful, so players need to master a hit-and-run fighting style. Getting the dash upgrade makes the game much more dynamic, letting you quickly dodge attacks and move rapidly around the map, almost like a speedy insect.

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Sting Fast, Hornet

If you’re looking for a game with fast-paced, web-slinging-like movement but not starring Spider-Man, the 2016 Attack on Titan game is a great choice. It follows the story of the first season and lets you play as different characters, equipping them with blades and special gear to quickly navigate and fight across large maps.

Maps are filled with powerful Titans that are tough to defeat. Players need to carefully plan how to avoid their attacks and find openings to strike. The game’s movement system creates a fast-paced and exciting experience that truly captures the feeling of watching the Attack on Titan anime.

Dead Cells

A Roguelike Born For Speedrunning

Unlike many roguelike games, Dead Cells rewards players for quickly clearing rooms. The game features multiple exits from each area, and your speed determines the rewards you receive. This is likely why the main character is so agile, with fast attacks, running, and dodging.

Players won’t be instantly fast, but with enough practice, they’ll become so familiar with the first dungeon that it will feel like they designed it themselves. That feeling of mastery can be really addictive.

Sunset Overdrive

Bouncing Past Zombies

Sunset Overdrive is a game developed by Insomniac, and it’s unique because it’s set in a city that’s been locked down due to an outbreak of mutated, zombie-like monsters.

The infected enemies move quickly, so staying mobile is key – either by running or getting above them. This means utilizing anything you can, like rails to grind on or car roofs to survey the area. It might be challenging for players to aim accurately while constantly moving, but with practice, it will become easier.

Anthem

Fight Or Flight

The online game Anthem is scheduled to shut down in January 2026, effectively making it unplayable without its servers. Despite its flaws, players really enjoyed customizing and flying around in the game’s powerful mech suits, called Javelins, within its expansive environments.

Most games make flying feel complicated, but BioWare did a great job in this one – it felt as natural as simply walking, even while fighting. It’s too bad the rest of the game wasn’t as polished.

Zone Of The Enders: The 2nd Runner

Don’t Mess With Jehuty

In Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, you pilot a powerful mech called an Orbital Frame, specifically the Jehuty. What sets this game apart from other mech games is its focus on aerial combat; the Jehuty is incredibly agile and feels weightless as you maneuver through the air.

What really set this game apart from other mech games—and why so many people love it—was its incredible control scheme. Whether you were soaring through levels or quickly closing in on enemies, the smooth and responsive movement made it one of the best-playing mech games ever created.

Mirror’s Edge

Gotta Have Faith

When Mirror’s Edge came out, it was a pioneer in bringing parkour – a movement that was becoming hugely popular in the mid-2000s – to video games. Players take on the role of Faith and the main goal is simply to run and complete missions.

This game is incredibly fast-paced and exciting when players perfectly synchronize their movements – running, jumping, and sliding – all experienced from a first-person perspective. While combat is present, it can interrupt the flow, making it smarter to disarm or knock out enemies instead of trying to take their weapons.

Dying Light

Zombie Parkour

As a huge fan of games where you really move, I’ve been loving Dying Light. It reminds me a lot of Mirror’s Edge, but with a really cool twist – it’s set after the world has ended and is overrun by zombies! And these aren’t slow, shuffling zombies either; they’re fast! Luckily, the game lets you run, jump, and climb all over the place, which is how you survive and try to escape the hordes. It’s seriously thrilling!

Unlike the original Mirror’s Edge, the game’s hero, Kyle, is much more capable in a fight. A good way to play is to quickly take down zombies with a gun or machete, then keep moving.
