Activision Pulling CoD: MW3 Support is Bad for One Character

Activision Pulling CoD: MW3 Support is Bad for One Character

As a seasoned gamer who has been following the Call of Duty franchise since its inception, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment over the apparent neglect of Alejandro Vargas in Modern Warfare 3. While I understand that the game’s narrative is set far from Mexico, it’s hard not to notice the glaring omission of this fan-favorite character who was such a standout in Modern Warfare 2.

Similar to many recent installments in the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has been continuously enriched post-release with a variety of additional content through multiple seasons. These seasons have shone the limelight on fresh maps, game types, weapons, and characters. This novel strategy for the franchise has resulted in an engaging mix of single-player and multiplayer content, with characters from previous Call of Duty campaigns now playing significant roles in a larger, interconnected multiplayer storyline.

In the latest seasons for multiplayer games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, they tend to spotlight a few main characters from the franchise, both old and new. And just as expected, MW3 is no exception – it’s currently in the midst of its fifth season, and there’s a strong chance that this will be one of the last before support for the game ends completely. While fans eagerly await the launch of Black Ops 6, there’s one character from the Modern Warfare reboot who appears to have been overlooked during MW3: Alejandro Vargas.

Alejandro Deserved More Attention in Modern Warfare 3

Alejandro Vargas was introduced to the Modern Warfare reboot with 2022’s Modern Warfare 2, featuring as a major supporting character in the game’s campaign. While it is true that the Modern Warfare reboot received a lot of criticism for its reliance on pre-established characters and plot points, Alejandro was an entirely fresh character to the CoD franchise and is one that fans immediately warmed to throughout the singleplayer narrative of MW2.

In this scenario, Alejandro serves as the leader of Los Vaqueros, a distinguished branch of the Mexican Special Forces. This team collaborates with Task Force 141 in battling cartels that threaten international security through terrorism and illicit arms trading. Fans admired Alejandro’s unpredictable yet faithful and proficient demeanor as an ally to TF141, resulting in his inclusion as a playable character within Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone.

In the course of Modern Warfare 2, Alejandro received numerous operator skins as post-launch content. However, his role in Modern Warfare 3 has been minimal. Many fans were disappointed by his absence from the campaign of Modern Warfare 3, particularly since he was absent, although it’s important to mention that the game’s narrative primarily unfolds in locations distant from Mexico.

Season 5 of MW3 is a Missed Opportunity For Alejandro Content

Despite it being reasonable that Alejandro doesn’t show up in the narrative of Modern Warfare 3 (MW3), his character has been notably missing from MW3’s multiplayer, with only one operator cosmetic as the sole appearance throughout the game’s entire lifespan. Intriguingly, Season 5 of MW3 emphasizes characters from Modern Warfare 2 (MW2), as the villain Valeria takes center stage in the content of this season.

Alejandro would have been ideal for a fresh start in Season 5, but unfortunately, his character does not appear. It appears unlikely that Alejandro will be the central figure in MW3‘s Season 6, which is likely to be the last season for the game, suggesting that the chance for an Alejandro revival might have passed. It’s unfortunate that Alejandro hasn’t had his time in the limelight for MW3, given that most of the main characters from MW2 have received some form of content, and it seems this may never occur now that the franchise is focusing on Black Ops 6.
