After 14 Years, Eiichiro Oda Brings Back A Legendary Pirate In One Piece

This article contains major spoilers for the One Piece manga.

After running for over 28 years, One Piece continues to captivate fans with its ever-evolving story. The current Final Saga, particularly the Elbaf Flashback, has introduced a wealth of exciting new information. Following the conclusion of the God Valley arc within the flashback, the story jumps forward 15 years, shifting its focus to Shanks, one of the most important characters in the series and a powerful Yonko.

Honestly, I was floored when it came out that Shanks actually joined the World Government after Roger passed! Becoming a God’s Blade – the Holy Knights’ right hand – seemed like such a turn, but it turns out he didn’t fall to the dark side at all. He cleverly used his position to gather intel on Imu and the World Government, and, even more surprisingly, he was the one who saved Fisher Tiger! That reveal in Chapter 1167 was incredible. Fisher Tiger’s story was so powerful, and it was amazing to see his name come up again, all thanks to Shanks. It really adds another layer to everything!

Fisher Tiger Makes A Comeback In One Piece Chapter 1167

Many One Piece fans don’t give the Fishman Island arc enough credit, especially considering it was the first major story arc after the two-year time skip. While the arc had many great scenes, Fisher Tiger really stood out. We first heard about him during the Amazon Lily arc, and learned he was a heroic Fishman who liberated a huge number of slaves from Marijoa.

Fisher Tiger is a beloved character, and he recently reappeared in the One Piece manga, specifically in chapter 1167. Fans were thrilled to see him again, even if it was just a quick scene, after such a long absence.

Fisher Tiger Was Saved By None Other Than Shanks

One Piece chapter 1167 revealed surprising details about how Fisher Tiger escaped from Marijoa. Fans previously thought he single-handedly freed himself and the other slaves, but it turns out that wasn’t how it happened.

Fisher Tiger received crucial assistance from Shanks, who was known as a God’s Blade at the time. According to chapter 1167 of One Piece, Shanks encountered Fisher Tiger while he was imprisoned. Shanks swiftly broke Tiger’s chains and even revealed the location of the armory. Tiger then used the weapons inside to start a large fire, creating a diversion that allowed him to liberate slaves and escape.

Without Shanks, Koala, And The Boa Sisters Couldn’t Have Escaped Slavery

Shanks’ assistance to Fisher Tiger has significant consequences for the overall story. Fisher Tiger’s actions included liberating numerous slaves from Marijoa, among them prominent figures like Boa Hancock, her sisters Boa Sandersonia and Boa Marigold, and Koala.

The moment Boa Hancock was freed had a huge impact on the story’s direction. Without her help, Luffy would likely have died on several occasions while trying to rescue Ace. She was instrumental in getting him safely into Impel Down and continued to save his life repeatedly throughout the Summit War.

Additionally, Boa Hancock will be important in the final part of the story. The moment when Shanks seemingly saved her is a touching one, and it’s likely Eiichiro Oda will reveal more details about Shanks’ past actions soon.

I’m so excited – a new One Piece chapter is coming out this week in Weekly Shonen Jump! Chapter 1168 will officially be released on December 7th, 2025.
