After 18 Years, Oda Finally Reveals Luffy’s Ancient Power In One Piece

This article contains spoilers from the One Piece series.

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is known for its amazing powers, from strong Haki to the unique abilities unlocked by Devil Fruit Awakenings. Oda has built a fantastic power system, but as the story enters its final saga, he needs to raise the stakes even further.

The climax of the One Piece story will reveal a powerful, ancient force linked to beings from the moon in the One Piece world. This power will be completely unlocked by the main character, Monkey D. Luffy. It’s likely this lunar power is the “Voice of All Things,” as it’s a unique ability inherited by those with the “D” in their name, and very few can actually use it.

To fully grasp how strong Luffy will become in the final part of the One Piece story, it’s important to understand the history of the ‘D’ people. The information revealed about Harley in the Elbaf arc holds the key to understanding their origins.

First World

A great fire swept across the land as people gave in to temptation and reached for something they shouldn’t have. The oppressed cried out, and a powerful Sun God answered. But the Earth God was furious, and joined forces with a fiery serpent to cover the world in destruction and shadow, ensuring those separated would remain so forever.

Second World

It all started with a stirring in the darkness, and the Forest God unleashed these incredible, terrifying demons. Honestly, the Sun just seemed to fuel the conflict, letting the fires of war spread. Both the people who worshipped the half-moon and those who revered the full-moon were lost in their own worlds, dreaming. Then, something unbelievable happened: humans actually killed the Sun and ascended, becoming gods themselves! But that act… it enraged the Sea God. It created a rift, a permanent separation. They were never meant to cross paths again, and I can just feel the tragedy of that lost connection.

Third World

Amidst turmoil and emptiness, a burdened spirit recalls a hopeful future and the distant call of a broken world. While a powerful force revels in the approaching end, hope remains that the sun will rise again, bringing a new beginning and a chance for reunion.

In short, the Harley manuscript suggests the D People originally came from the moon. The manuscript refers to people who lived on the full moon, and One Piece fans know that the story includes winged races who came to Earth from the moon when their home planet’s resources were depleted.

The Shandians made their home in the Blue Sea, and the Skypieans lived in Skypiea. Another winged race, the Birkans from the moon, settled in Birka. As we’ve seen in the One Piece world, people of different races often have children together. This mixing eventually led to the people of the half-moon having children with humans, creating the lineage known as the ‘D’. These half-moon descendants are the people fans recognize as the ‘D’ family.

Luffy’s Voice Of All Things Could Come From The Moon People

The ‘Voice of All Things’ is a powerful, ancient ability in the world of One Piece, and it appears to be unlocked by individuals with the ‘D’ in their name. Currently, Luffy, Roger, Oden, Momonosuke, and Shirahoshi are the only ones confirmed to have awakened it. Interestingly, all of these characters have some link to the lost Ancient Kingdom, which makes their connection to the ‘D’ bloodline seem likely.

Eventually, everything will become clear. And regarding the Poneglyphs, Roger couldn’t actually read them – he didn’t understand the ancient language. We’re pirates, not scholars like the brilliant Professor Clover and the others from Ohara. Roger simply had the ability to hear the Voice of All Things. That was the extent of it. — Silvers Rayleigh on the Voice Of All Things

Luffy probably inherited this ability from his grandfather, despite the fact that Garp doesn’t possess it. The physical resemblances between Luffy, Garp, and the Shandian Elder during the Skypiea arc are striking and suggest a family connection.

The author, Oda, has strongly hinted at a link between certain characters, suggesting that Luffy is descended from the people of the moon – that his ancestry lies on the moon itself.

Many important characters in One Piece seem to have a link to the mysterious ‘D’ group. Because of this, it’s likely some of them will develop the ‘Voice of All Things’ – which appears to be a major new power Oda is building towards in the story.

Sun God Nika Could Also Come From The Moon

As a huge One Piece fan, I’m completely fascinated by the hints about Luffy’s connection to the moon! It’s not just a passing thing, you know? We all know the Sun God Nika showed up somehow, and I really believe Nika actually came from the moon with the people who eventually settled on our planet – the ‘Blue Planet’ as it’s sometimes called. It’s such a cool theory!

The story provides clues throughout, but two stand out. First, the people of both the Moon and Half Moon are shown worshipping the Sun. Second, those living in Skypiea are known to pray to a Sun God, a key element from that part of the story.

Considering they’re the oldest race in the One Piece world, it’s logical that the Sun God originated from the Moon. Plus, the Minks’ Sulong transformation, which turns them into a white beast when they look at the Moon, bears a striking resemblance to Luffy’s Gear 5. This suggests the source of this ancient power lies with the Moon, and it’s what Luffy is able to tap into.

Luffy’s incredible strength likely comes from the moon. When he fully unlocks his ability to hear the voices of everything around him – allowing him to communicate with all life in the One Piece world – the full potential of his Gear 5 transformation will be revealed, and fans are eagerly anticipating it.
