After 7 Years, Solo Leveling Is Finally Over

This article contains spoilers for the Solo Leveling Manhwa.

The anime adaptation of Solo Leveling became a huge hit in 2025, but the original manhwa finished its run some time ago. A sequel, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, was quickly announced and followed the story of Jinwoo’s son, Sung Suho. That sequel series has also recently come to an end.

Although most fans are enjoying Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, it introduces some significant changes. The biggest difference is that, unlike the original Solo Leveling, anyone can now gain levels. Sung Suho, thanks to his ability to create shadows, can make items that allow users to level up and become more powerful. This addition has divided fans, but it’s important to remember that Solo Leveling: Ragnarok takes place in a separate universe, so its events won’t affect the main storyline.

‘Solo Leveling’ is Over As Anybody Can Level Up Now

The anime Solo Leveling is a thrilling series focused on the protagonist’s constant growth in power. The title Solo Leveling highlights a key aspect of the story: only Sung Jinwoo can increase his abilities through leveling up. Unlike other Hunters who awaken with fixed power levels, he’s the sole one who continues to improve, making the name perfectly fitting.

I bear witness to your hardships, prove your strength in the face of adversity, and represent the peace you’ve earned through pain. I am Death, offering both finality and lasting peace, and I inspire fear.

As a huge fan of Solo Leveling, I was already excited to see Jinwoo’s son, Sung Suho, take the spotlight in Ragnarok and inherit his dad’s ability to level up – that made sense, honestly! But what really blew my mind was discovering that, in this sequel, pretty much anyone can level up now! It’s a total game-changer and a clever loophole the author introduced. It’s wild to think the unique power Jinwoo had in the original series is now so much more widespread.

I’m so excited about this! For a long time, only the hero could get stronger, but now anyone can! It’s all thanks to Sung Suho and his incredible Shadow Creation ability. Basically, he can pull shadows from things and turn them into actual equipment – it’s how everyone’s leveling up now, and it’s a total game-changer!

Sung Jinwoo declared he would defend his family no matter the cost, even if it meant facing the opposition of every hunter worldwide.

These special items, called shadow equipments, can be upgraded and transferred to other characters. We first saw this happen in Solo Leveling Ragnarok chapter 62, when Sung Suho gave Baek Yoonho a pair of powerful, Heroic Grade gauntlets. As the gauntlets improve, Baek Yoonho’s strength also grows.

Baek doesn’t get directly more powerful, but this is a smart way to make the characters around Suho stronger while still staying true to the story of Solo Leveling.

Solo Leveling: Ragnarok’s Story Doesn’t Directly Impact The Original Solo Leveling Series

Allowing other characters to gain power through shadow equipment is a bit of a debated decision. The core concept of Solo Leveling was that leveling up was a special ability, not something everyone could do.

Despite how fans feel about it, Solo Leveling creator Chugong has officially stated that Solo Leveling: Ragnarok takes place in a different universe than the original Solo Leveling story.

Chugong created ‘Ragnarok’ as a treat for fans of ‘Solo Leveling’. He wanted to see how another writer would approach the world he built. While it takes place in the ‘Solo Leveling’ universe, it doesn’t continue the main storyline. Think of it as an alternate version of events—like the different universes you see in Marvel stories. Chugong is also thinking about potentially writing a follow-up himself.

I’ve noticed some discussion about extra characters gaining levels, and honestly, it doesn’t seem like a big deal. It won’t change the main story at all, so fans worried about it going against the core idea of Solo Leveling can relax. And for those of us who are enjoying the direction Ragnarok is taking, it looks like we can keep on enjoying it as the story unfolds.

“I Feel Like Something Within Me Is Lost Every Time I Get Stronger.” — Sung Jinwoo

You can currently watch 25 episodes of Solo Leveling, divided into two seasons, with the latest season concluding in 2025. It’s available to stream on Crunchyroll. As of now, there’s no news about a third season, but fans can continue enjoying the story through the original Manhwa.
