After 9 Years, Boruto Uzumaki Finally Awakens His New Dojutsu

This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.

Chapter 29 of Boruto: Two Vortex delivered some major surprises for fans. The most captivating moment was the discussion between Boruto Uzumaki and Momoshiki Otsutsuki. As many readers know, Boruto and Momoshiki previously made an agreement: Boruto offered Momoshiki control of his body to free him from his imprisonment, and in return, Momoshiki promised to help Boruto eliminate all the Shinju.

We finally learned Momoshiki’s answer this month: he agreed to let Boruto fully use the Karma. Alongside this, Boruto completely awakened his Byakugan, adding a powerful new ability to his skills.

Boruto Uzumaki Awakens The Byakugan In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 29

  • The Byakugan Adds To Boruto’s Immense Power
  • Boruto Uzumaki Now Has Otsutsuki Powers

The Byakugan is a remarkably strong eye ability in the world of Naruto. Considered one of the three main Dojutsu—along with the Rinnegan and Sharingan—it gives the user X-ray vision. It also lets them see a person’s chakra pathways and identify key points in their nervous system. When used with the Gentle Fist fighting style, the Byakugan can disrupt an opponent’s chakra flow, making them helpless in battle.

This world is my most treasured creation, and I won’t let you destroy it any further. I’m ending your existence now. All spiritual energy belongs to me! I will reunite it all into one source. Hagoromo and Hamura, you have betrayed me, and now I will take back what is rightfully mine. — Kaguya Otsutsuki, Naruto

The Byakugan allows users to see for kilometers, and at his best, Neji could spot even the smallest particles from incredible distances. It provides nearly 360-degree vision, with a small blind spot in the back. Combined with the Gentle Fist fighting style, the Byakugan also offers exceptional defense, making it a powerful but often overlooked ability in the Naruto universe.

Boruto Uzumaki now possesses the Byakugan, an ability he inherited from Momoshiki. Fans will recall that Momoshiki previously had access to this powerful eye, and it has since been passed down to Boruto.

Boruto’s Byakugan Comes From Momoshiki Otsutsuki

It’s important to remember that Momoshiki’s Byakugan is unique. Fans have noticed he could seemingly freeze time using his abilities, and this might be linked to his Byakugan.

So, you see no future for yourself, and you just want to end things – to kill me and be done with it. Unless… unless there’s a way out, a chance to be free. These gods are a danger to us both. Will you work with me, or not? — Boruto Uzumaki to Momoshiki Otsutsuki, Boruto: TBV chapter 29

Momoshiki’s Byakugan allowed him to see into the future, and he used this ability often. This power might have been passed down to Boruto Uzumaki, giving him hidden advantages as a ninja. As Boruto’s Karma power grows, this eye could become even more powerful and potentially change completely.

Boruto’s Jougan Is Officially Non-Canon

For a long time, fans of Boruto have been anticipating the appearance of the Jogan in the manga. However, with Boruto activating his Karma, it’s now clear that his unique eye isn’t the Jogan – it’s actually the Byakugan. It seems the Jogan doesn’t exist in the Boruto manga at all, and fans are now realizing they need to accept that.

Ultimately, the Jogan was created for the anime and isn’t part of the official Boruto story found in the manga. It was always strange that such a significant power was introduced in the anime without any mention in the manga, and now it’s clear the Jogan isn’t considered canon. Fans should remember this going forward.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is the continuation of the Boruto story, created by Mikio Ikemoto and with supervision from Masashi Kishimoto. The series picks up three years after the events of the Omnipotence arc, following Boruto Uzumaki as he works to protect the world and navigates his relationship with his brother, Kawaki. Chapter 30 is scheduled to be released on January 18, 2026, at 10 AM EST / 3 PM UTC. Fans can read it for free on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
