Accessory maker DBrand has released a solution for a newly announced pair of Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons, responding to criticism of the official controllers. The launch of the new Switch 2 console has generated a lot of excitement, offering significant improvements over the original model. The Switch 2 includes features like GameShare, which lets players share games with friends, and a complete voice and video chat system. Notably, the console’s controllers received some of the biggest enhancements.
With the release of the Switch 2, Nintendo significantly upgraded its popular Joy-Con controllers. The new Joy-Con 2 controllers now connect magnetically instead of sliding on, making them easier and faster to attach and detach. Nintendo also added new features like enhanced motion controls and a new “Mouse” function. Recently, Nintendo revealed new color options for the Joy-Con 2, though some fans haven’t been thrilled with the choices.
DBrand Answers Joy-Con 2 Backlash With New Skins
After fans reacted negatively to the subtle colors of the new Joy-Con 2 controllers, accessory maker DBrand offered a solution. The new controllers from Nintendo have been criticized because the purple and light-green shades are hard to see when used with the Switch 2. DBrand is selling skins for the Joy-Con 2 that use the same color scheme but cover the entire controller, making the colors more noticeable. DBrand playfully poked fun at Nintendo in the product description, boasting they “do what Nintendon’t.” The purple and green skins are available for pre-order now for $19.95 and are expected to ship in February.

Okay, so DBrand is at it again with these new skins for the Joy-Cons. Honestly, this isn’t the first time they’ve jumped in with their own versions of console colors. They make a ton of stuff for all sorts of devices – I’ve got one of their phone cases, and they have skins for pretty much every console out there. What’s funny is they love to playfully tease the big companies like Sony and Nintendo, especially when they release new colors. They’ll basically say, ‘Here’s how we would do it,’ and their website is full of jokes about different game developers, right there on the main page. It’s pretty entertaining, actually.
Nintendo’s New Joy-Cons Have Seen Significant Fan Criticism
Nintendo’s recently revealed Joy-Con 2 controllers have received some criticism for their color design. When used as a handheld, the colors are mostly hidden, only appearing around the joysticks. This is different from the original Switch controllers, which were fully colored. These new Joy-Con 2 controllers are also the first new color options for the console since its initial release, as previously the only alternative was a black version with red and blue accents.
Image via Niintendo Nintendo is planning a strong start to 2026, beginning with the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on the Switch 2 on January 22nd. They’re also preparing to launch their first Mario sports title for the new console, Mario Tennis Fever, in February. Despite some lukewarm reactions to the new Joy-Con 2 controllers, Nintendo fans have a lot to look forward to in the early months of the year.
