After Pivot To “AI First”, Krafton Offering Staff Voluntary Resignations

Following their announcement that they’re prioritizing artificial intelligence, Krafton is reducing its workforce. They are currently offering employees the option to voluntarily resign.

These deals were announced shortly after Krafton revealed its strongest financial results yet.

According to a report from Business Korea, the company behind popular games like Subnautica, inZOI, and PUBG revealed plans on November 12th to offer buyouts to all its employees, including those with only a few years of experience – five or less.

So, they’re making offers to employees based on how long they’ve been with the company, which is great! It looks like the details vary depending on whether you’ve been there less than a year, all the way up to over 11 years. Here’s what’s included…

  • One year or less: Six months’ salary
  • Two years or less: 12 months’ salary
  • Five years or less: 18 month’s salary
  • Eight years or less: 24 months’ salary
  • 11 years or less: 30 months’ salary
  • More than 11 years: 36 months’ salary

Krafton insists this isn’t a layoff, but a program to help employees “actively plan” for their future development within the company.

According to a statement to Business Korea, Krafton’s main goal is to help employees shape their careers and take on new opportunities, both within the company and beyond, as artificial intelligence changes the business landscape. Krafton intends to empower its employees to choose whether to continue evolving their roles internally or pursue external ventures.

Besides employees choosing to leave, Krafton has stopped most hiring. They are still hiring people who create new games and work with artificial intelligence.

Krafton recently announced it’s focusing on AI, and now they’ve offered a voluntary resignation plan. What are your thoughts on this timing? Share your opinions in the comments and connect with the TopMob community on their Discord server.
