Definitive Edition” is soon receiving an additional content pack titled “The Three Kingdoms“. This upcoming expansion for the game is planned to be released in May 2025, and players can currently pre-order it at a reduced price.
Since its release at the end of 2019, the remastered version of Ensemble Studios’ classic RTS game has been expanded by four significant updates. The latest expansion, titled “Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition – Chronicles: Battle for Greece“, was launched in November 2024.
Five months down the line, Xbox Game Studios’ publisher has unveiled another expansion titled “The Three Kingdoms“. As suggested by its name, this upcoming DLC draws inspiration from the famously romanticized era of third-century China. In this new DLC for “Age of Empires 2: DE“, five civilizations will be introduced: Shu, Wei, Wu, Jurchens, and Khitans. Additionally, it will feature three additional campaigns and approximately a dozen new units. The release date for “The Three Kingdoms” is set for May 6.
Age of Empires 2: DE – The Three Kingdoms Contents
- 5 new civilizations
- 6 new units
- 3 new campaigns
In the forthcoming expansion for Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, you’ll find some fresh units joining the fray, like the robustly armored Hei Guang Cavalry and Traction Trebuchets – these are mobile artillery pieces capable of inflicting damage from a distance. There’s also the formidable Lou Chuans, often referred to as “floating fortresses,” which overpower just about anything they encounter, be it boat or building. The Dragon Ships mark the second new naval unit for The Three Kingdoms. Additionally, the DLC will bring in the straightforwardly named Fire Lancers and Rocket Carts.
As a fervent admirer, let me share that the freshly unveiled Age of Empires 2: DE campaigns are christened Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and The Sun Clan. Each tale will revolve around a unique civilization; Liu Bei’s story centers around Shu, while The Sun Clan and Cao Cao’s narratives will delve into Wu and Wei respectively. In keeping with the grand tradition of Age of Empires 2 campaigns, these new chronicles promise a thrilling blend of conflict, treachery, and high-stakes drama.
