Summary
- Akira Toriyama designed Super Saiyan 4 for Dragon Ball Daima, showing his love for fans.
- Dragon Ball Daima was carefully developed over five years with consideration for fans of Dragon Ball GT.
- Despite plot holes, Dragon Ball Daima is a love letter to fans, hinting at a possible new project.
Initially, when Dragon Ball Daima was unveiled, spectators anticipated it as a futile endeavor. However, this perspective swiftly transformed once the series started streaming, as they soon recognized that it wasn’t an arbitrary production by Toei Animation.
It turns out that Akira Toriyama played a significant role in the project, as he was asked for his thoughts by the team. Instead of declining, Toriyama enthusiastically agreed to participate. He’s now recognized for creating the storyline, designing characters and their transformations, including Super Saiyan 4.
It might come as a delightful surprise, but indeed, Akira Toriyama is responsible for designing this form, which he named ‘The Super Saiyan 4′, suggesting its exclusivity for the anime. This could be seen as a testament to how deeply Toriyama values his fans and wished to make this transformation an official part of the series’ lore.
After much dispute among enthusiasts, the topic under discussion has found a resolution with the introduction of the transformation in Dragon Ball Daima. This development now allows for an end to the debate over its validity as canonical material.
Dragon Ball Daima Had Another Major Transformation

From my perspective, Dragon Ball Daima was not just about Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 transformation; it also showcased extraordinary moments like Vegeta’s Super Saiyan 3 form. Interestingly, instead of acknowledging it as Super Saiyan 3, the Saiyan Prince preferred to label it as Ultra Vegeta 1, a choice that aligns well with his proud demeanor.
Dragon Ball Daima Was A Passion Project
2023 saw the exciting announcement of Dragon Ball Daima, and I’ve been brimming with anticipation ever since! With five years dedicated to its development, it’s clear that Toei Animation is committed to delivering a polished product instead of an incomplete mess. Akio Iyoku, our esteemed executive producer, has also shared that they’ve drawn inspiration from Dragon Ball GT. He hinted that it’s designed for fans who grew up watching Dragon Ball GT, making it a heartfelt tribute to us long-time viewers. So, in many ways, this new anime can be seen as a touching letter of love to its dedicated fanbase like me!
Despite its widespread acclaim, Dragon Ball Daima has room for improvement when it comes to story development. There are numerous inconsistencies in the plot that require resolution, yet with Akira Toriyama’s passing, these issues may remain unaddressed forever. Nevertheless, fans shouldn’t allow this to mar their enjoyment of the series excessively.
Even though Dragon Ball Daima has recently concluded, whispers about a new project are circulating, given the immense popularity of this franchise. Since the Dragon Ball Super manga continues to unfold, it’s possible that Toei Animation could soon reveal the continuation of the anime series. With Toyotaro skillfully managing the manga, an announcement seems quite probable.
Dragon Ball Daima is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
