It appears that the director of Elden Ring’s movie adaptation might have a deeper affection for the project than initially assumed, considering the extensive length of his script. An article from The New Yorker offers some intriguing insights into how the upcoming A24 film materialized. Furthermore, it suggests that the film may be in capable hands following this revelation.
2022 saw Elden Ring, a blockbuster title by Bandai Namco and FromSoftware, garner numerous Game of the Year accolades. The game’s challenging gameplay, reminiscent of their Dark Souls franchise, has kept gamers hooked, earning it high praise as one of director Hidetaka Miyazaki’s top works. Recently, A24 – an independent studio – and director Alex Garland revealed plans for a film adaptation. Garland, famous for Ex Machina and 28 Days Later, might be a surprising pick due to the game’s vast scope. Yet, if his passion for the project is as deep as rumored, we could be in for an exciting adaption of Elden Ring.
A24 Details How Elden Ring Film Came To Be With Alex Garland
In an article published by A24 in The New Yorker, Noah Sacco (head of film) had a conversation with Alex Barasch about the studio. During their discussion about upcoming major productions, Sacco recalled meeting with director Alex Garland five years prior. At that time, Garland had previously worked on Ex Machina, Civil War, and Warfare with A24. While they were together, Garland displayed Elden Ring on PlayStation to Sacco and proposed adapting it for the studio. Upon Sacco’s agreement, Garland wrote a 160-page script along with 40 illustrations for his adaptation of Elden Ring. After completion, Garland and Sacco traveled to Japan to present their work to FromSoftware and director Hidetaka Miyazaki.
It’s clear that the agreement was successful, and the movie has been approved for production. Notably, George R.R Martin from Game of Thrones is among the original creators involved. Additionally, this marks A24’s second venture into video game film production. In development is Death Stranding, helmed by Michael Sarnoski who directed A Quiet Place: Day One. Furthermore, considering Alex Garland’s excitement for Elden Ring, the upcoming movie may surpass other game adaptations in quality.
