These books are among the most cherished tie-in novels that the franchise has produced so far.

Survios Writer Alex White Talks Alien: Rogue Incursion, VR, and More

Q: Tell us about who you are and your professional background.

Alex White is my name, and I write numerous science fiction books, such as “Alien: The Cold Forge” and “Alien: Into Charybdis.” I’ve been a dedicated fan of the Alien series for a long time, and I believe my enthusiasm stems from the Alien comics of the 90s. As a child, I spent countless hours reading them, and it was an incredible moment when I became part of the authors who wrote those stories.

Q: What is Survios building?

Survios aims to construct an exceptional Virtual Reality (VR) game based on the Alien franchise, aiming for it to be a companion piece to earlier Alien games while evoking the raw terror of being pursued by the deadly Xenomorph.

Alien: Rogue Incursion stands out among typical VR action-horror games due to its realistic Xenomorphs, which redefine the combat zone by making it unpredictable, as creatures can appear from any part of the environment to endanger the player. This game isn’t just about running and gunning or hiding; you’ll need a combination of strategic thinking to handle the continuous threats coming from every direction.

Maybe what sets Alien: Rogue Incursion apart in the action-horror VR genre is its emphasis on storytelling. While many impressive adaptations exist within this industry, this one will offer a unique, innovative narrative tailored specifically for the capabilities of VR. Brace yourself; you’re going to need courage for this experience.

As an avid fan, I’m absolutely thrilled at the prospect of immersing myself in the Alien universe through Virtual Reality! The possibilities for a truly engaging and terrifying experience are endless. In terms of unique elements that could be added to the VR story, I’d love to see more about the Xenomorph evolution process, perhaps even being able to witness it firsthand. Additionally, exploring the derelict Alien spacecraft or the eerie LV-426 would be a dream come true in a fully immersive environment. The sense of scale and detail that VR can provide could make these iconic locations feel even more intimidating and alien (pun intended). Furthermore, the ability to interact with the environment and potentially encounter hostile creatures in a way that feels truly visceral would elevate the fear factor to new heights. I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing how this translates into an unforgettable VR experience!

As a devoted fan, I must say that immersing myself in the chilling Alien universe through VR is unlike any other gaming experience for me. Unlike playing on PC or console where there’s a layer of separation between controls and action, VR brings the lethal Xenomorphs right into my space. In these virtual realms, I can’t simply dodge roll to escape harm as I would in 2D games. The sense of scale and weight that the Alien universe portrays is not easily conveyed through traditional 2D representations, even with advanced rendering techniques and sound design. What truly sets Alien: Rogue Incursion apart is the raw, unfiltered reality of the Xenomorphs’ size and proximity to me, making every encounter feel incredibly real and intense.

“Another great aspect is navigating through that world’s environment. In fact, ‘Alien’ stands out as my top pick for all-time favorite science fiction horror movies, and I’ve long dreamed of exploring the Nostromo or Hadley’s Hope—even if it’s just from the comfort of my home.

Here’s a creative, straightforward rephrasing for your text:

Q: What do you believe is missing in the VR game space?

The market is overflowing with rogue-likes and wave shooters as they offer an excellent platform to showcase a tech demo’s capabilities. However, I must clarify that I don’t look down on these games! In fact, I was a fervent admirer of Raw Data before ever working with Survios – it was a groundbreaking title, and they continue to build upon its foundations for the next generation.

As a enthusiast of virtual reality, I’m craving for captivating AAA single-player campaigns that offer immersive depth, compelling storylines, and monumental narrative elements. I yearn for convincing dialogues and narratives that leave me eager to share them with my friends during social gatherings. At the heart of these stories, I seek complex characters whose journeys will provoke a mix of emotions ranging from haunting, exhilarating, to comforting sensations.

Q: What narrative elements from the Alien franchise are unique to Alien: Rogue Incursion?

In the realm of feature films, it’s common to find ensemble casts facing off against horror and peril. Teams such as the Colonial Marines are typically structured this way, fostering bond-like relationships akin to family, which provides them with immense strength. Our focus, however, is on the unyielding loyalty and alliance between Zula Hendricks and Davis 01 – an unlikely duo standing against the seemingly impossible.

After going through several shared experiences, they’ve become adept at standing by each other. Sharing a predicament with someone dear is reassuring, but witnessing them in peril is not enjoyable. To put it straightforwardly, as an author, I aim to stir your feelings towards these two characters. I hope to elicit empathy from you.

And, as always, the Alien franchise has a way of keeping you guessing about who lives and who dies.

It’s my job as an author to manipulate your emotions. I hope to make you feel for these two.

Q: What are some memorable or significant experiences do you hope players will have when they engage with this game?

A: Razor sharp, low-banter dialogue, from two excellent communicators, for starters.

I’d like for them to immerse themselves in an intense Alien encounter that they’ve been eagerly anticipating, and I’m hoping we manage to catch them off guard. Since they’ve watched the movies before, we can’t rely on repeating old surprises…

Q: Is there anything else exciting you can tell us about the game?

As a devoted fan, I couldn’t help but adore the snippets of narrative scattered throughout. Crafting a comprehensive and engaging research facility brimming with intrigue was an absolute blast! Instead of wading through numerous diary entries, you’ll find the lives of the staff mirrored in various data products. For those with a knack for uncovering lore, resonant stories hidden within this perilous research facility await discovery.

On December 19, the game titled “Alien: Rogue Incursion” will make its debut, available for purchase on PlayStation VR2, Meta Quest 3, and Steam VR. There will be two versions of the game to choose from – Standard and Deluxe, priced at $39.99 and $49.99 respectively. The premium version comes with additional cosmetic items such as weapons and armor skins reminiscent of “Alien: Romulus”. Pre-orders for “Alien: Rogue Incursion” are now available on your preferred VR platform.
