All Abilities in Control & How to Get Them

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say that Control has undeniably left its mark in my gaming journey. The combat and movement mechanics are nothing short of satisfying, and the introduction of psychic abilities elevates the gameplay experience to new heights.

I remember the days when games were just about wielding a sword or gun; now we’re manipulating objects with our mind! It feels like playing a superhero without the cape (and thankfully, without the annoying sidekicks too).

The main missions provide two powers, but venturing into side objectives and DLCs uncovers an array of other abilities that can significantly enhance your gameplay. I’d say the most useful power I stumbled upon was the Launch ability – who wouldn’t want to throw stuff at their enemies?

However, the Levitate power was a close second, allowing me to explore and gain tactical advantages like never before. The Evade power also came in handy during intense combat situations, while Seize was perfect for turning the tide when things got tough. And let’s not forget about Shield – a must-have defensive ability that saved my hide more times than I care to remember.

Now, with the release of The Foundation DLC, players can obtain two new abilities: Shape and Fracture. These powers are circumstantial, but they’re essential for completing the DLC. I find myself torn between choosing Shape or Fracture – it’s like being forced to pick my favorite child! (Though if push comes to shove, I guess I could always love them both equally… right?)

In all seriousness, Control has proven to be a fantastic addition to my gaming library, and I eagerly await what new abilities the future may bring. And as for a joke, here it goes: Why did the psychic ability go to therapy? Because it had control issues!

The game offers extremely gratifying combat and navigation, significantly boosted by psychic talents. As players progress and complete various objectives related to the enigmatic artifacts in the game, they’ll acquire numerous psychic powers.

The characters will guide Jess on her journey through the complex. They’ll only receive two abilities from the main storyline, but additional powers can be acquired by finishing side quests or purchasing the game’s downloadable content. Powers gained from side missions could prove extremely beneficial and should be pursued as early as feasible.

All Powers In Control Base Game

In this game, players can acquire and utilize a variety of powers. They can strengthen these powers by allocating points they earn through various methods. At any point they’ve purified (Control Points), players have the option to reallocate these points, altering their playstyle. It’s important to note that there are additional abilities beyond these, with two more being introduced in The Foundation DLC.

Launch The power players will use most frequently is Launch. This power lets players lift and manipulate objects and even fire them as projectiles to damage their foes — making it a great addition to the player’s arsenal of weapons. This power will also be used to traverse the world to reach otherwise unattainable areas, as well as solve puzzles. Obtained through the mission, Unknown Caller.
Levitate With this power, the player is able to move up into the air and drift about. This can be used to reach otherwise unattainable areas and gain a tactical advantage in combat. Players cannot levitate indefinitely and will start to lose altitude after a set amount of time. This power can be activated while Jess is falling. Players will want to pick up the Ground Slam feature for this ability, as it can both damage and interrupt groups of enemies. Players will want to explore upgrades for their weapons as well, to ensure they can keep up with the game’s difficulty. Obtained through the mission, My Brother’s Keeper.
Evade With this power, players can move from one space to another. This will mostly be implemented for combat purposes to avoid incoming damage. However, players can also use this to close the distance on a ledge they would otherwise miss. Obtained through the mission, A Merry Chase.
Seize This power can turn enemies against one another. The catch is that their health needs to be low enough for the power to work on them. This can help deal more damage against other enemies, but it also prevents the amount of potential damage coming the player’s way. Just be sure to finish off the seized enemy before they break free from its control. Obtained through the mission, A Captive Audience.
Shield This is the primary defensive ability in the game. When used, the player will create a mass of debris that will absorb all incoming damage. Players can use this to tactically relocate or press the advantage towards enemies. This power can be upgraded so that this debris is thrust forward to damage enemies. Obtained through the mission, A Good Defense.

All Powers in Control The Foundation DLC

Through the expansion pack known as “The Foundation”, players can acquire two new skills that aren’t crucial for the main game’s narrative. Following the completion of the core gameplay, this DLC will further unfold the game’s story. These extra abilities are situational and won’t be beneficial in the base game’s storyline; they can only be utilized when Jess encounters particular crystal formations to manipulate them.

Power Description How to unlock
Shape Players will find patches of small crystals gripping onto walls and other surfaces. Using Shape will cause Jess to pull structures from these patches that can be used to traverse areas, solve puzzles, and attack enemies. Players will choose between Shape and Fracture as they progress through the DLC. They will obtain the power they select and later will also obtain the remaining power.
Fracture This is the opposite of the Shape power, in that it lets players destroy crystal structures that impede their progress. Both of these powers will be required to complete the DLC.
