Following a pass to your wide receiver or tight end, the action might just be starting. By mastering your player’s movements and making them run with the ball effectively, you can prolong the play for additional yardage in Madden NFL 26. But achieving this requires using a variety of moves from your collection to dodge or simply bulldoze incoming defenders. In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through all ball carrier moves in Madden NFL 26, including Saquon Barkley’s reverse hurdle, ensuring you can gain crucial yards on every play.
How to Do All Ball Carrier Moves in College Football 26
How to Spin
The spin move could be useful for dodging an approaching defender, since it enables the ball carrier to swiftly elude an incoming tackle and utilize open spaces on either side of the defensive player. This way, you can keep running with speed while avoiding a hit, giving you a head start before another defender arrives or extending your run further downfield.
To make your player spin, push the Circle button (on PS5) or the B button (on Xbox), then guide the left joystick in the desired rotation direction.
How to Hurdle
To leap over a defending player while moving towards one, press the Triangle/Y button at the right moment. The key is not to jump too soon or else you’ll fall into the defender’s arms. If you do it too late, the defender will have already tackled your ball carrier. Aim to jump just before you believe the tackling animation begins, and your player should successfully leap over them.
In the Simulation gameplay, a player’s ability to jump is crucial for determining how successfully they can leap over opponents while carrying the ball. Ensure you attempt this move only with players who possess a good jumping skill.
How to Truck
In trucking, you maneuver like a ball carrier who pushes past an opposing player, sending them tumbling to the ground while continuing your forward momentum. To put it another way, when a defender approaches you, you respond by moving the right stick forward.
Remember that using a trucking move (pushing an opposing defender forcefully to the ground) can help you continue your run, but it will also decrease your ball carrier’s speed. This gives other defenders more time to close in and tackle you.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t stress enough that the success of my ball carrier in “trucking” (or powerfully running over defenders) isn’t always a given. The stats of both my player and the defensive players come into play here. A higher trucking stat for my player increases the chances, but even then, there’s still a possibility that a well-prepared defender might manage to stand their ground.
How to Stiff Arm
In simpler terms, the “stiff arm” move is beneficial when an opponent approaches from the side during a game. By extending their arm outward, the player carrying the ball can ward off the defender and continue running, conserving momentum since there’s less physical contact between them. However, if the defender has strong tackling skills, they might still be able to bring down the ball carrier despite the stiff arm move.
To perform a stiff arm, keep holding the X/A button when an opponent tries to make a tackle on your player. It doesn’t matter too much about the timing, but ensuring the button is pressed during the tackle attempt will help your player try to push the defender off effectively.
How to Juke
In simpler terms, “juking” can be described as a tactic where a player makes a false move to deceive opponents, pretending to go in one direction before swiftly changing course and moving in the opposite direction instead. This clever maneuver confuses defenders, causing them to follow the wrong path, allowing the player to progress unhindered. Since this technique primarily relies on agility rather than physical contact, it enables the ball carrier to preserve their speed and momentum throughout the game.
To juke, move the right stick in the direction you want your player to move.
How to Hesi Juke (Dead Leg)
In the gaming world of Madden 26, the hesi juke, or the dead leg, shares a resemblance with the regular juke. However, instead of moving sideways, it involves a forward-backward motion. Essentially, by pushing the right analog stick down while you’re carrying the ball, your player will momentarily halt their run before resuming it.
In this scenario, a quick hesitation move known as a “hesi jukes” can be very useful. If an opposing player is approaching from the side at great speed, expecting to tackle you, this move may cause them to misjudge your position. They might overestimate where you will be, thus missing you entirely and falling to the ground. As a result, the ball carrier can proceed unimpeded with their run.
Yet, when your ball carrier comes to a complete halt, it results in a significant decrease in momentum. Employing a swift wide receiver known for speed or quick acceleration could assist in minimizing this loss of momentum, allowing your offense to regain traction and push towards the end zone once more.
How to Slide and Dive
The “slide” and “dive” techniques are used strategically to secure additional yards at the end of a play while running. Sliding involves your player deliberately falling to the ground, thus forfeiting the play and avoiding direct contact from a tackle, which may help prevent potential injuries. On the other hand, diving refers to jumping forward in mid-air to gain extra yards.
Sliding is done by pressing the Square/ X button, while diving is done by holding it instead.
This is also how you QB slide if you’re running with a Quarterback.
How to Do Saquon Barkley Reverse Hurdle
Do the Cover Move!

Earlier, Saquon Barkley graced the front cover of Madden NFL 26 after performing an impressive reverse hurdle move, which has likely sparked interest among players who would like to replicate his spectacular feat in-game.
In Madden 26, to perform a reverse hurdle with Saquon Barkley, you should be carrying the ball and, as an opponent approaches from your side (not directly in front), press Triangle/Y. Visualize it like this: if you draw lines diagonally from both of Barkley’s shoulders, the approaching defender should be at that angle for a successful reverse hurdle execution.
It’s important to point out that accomplishing this task won’t be simple. You’ll need to move at near top speed alongside Barkley, and the timing must be precise, similar to clearing a standard hurdle. Due to the unique angle the defender approaches you from, there’s a high chance you’ll execute a standard hurdle instead of a reverse one.
A helpful tip is to attempt adjusting Barkley’s running path when he’s moving at top speed, and then concentrate on nailing the timing afterward. With a touch of good fortune, the right angle, and some speed on your side, you could successfully perform the Barkley reverse hurdle in Madden 26, which would undoubtedly excite the crowd.
Performing a reverse hurdle doesn’t offer any additional effectiveness compared to a regular hurdle. However, due to its iconic nature, it is often included in performances. It’s ideal for those who want to impress and have the confidence to successfully execute it (or aren’t concerned about the outcome if they fail).
