As a seasoned traveler across the post-apocalyptic lands of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, I can confidently say that the quest for Banuk Artifacts is one that truly tests the mettle of even the most intrepid explorer. These elusive treasures, hidden in the most precarious and hard-to-reach locations, offer a tantalizing glimpse into the history and culture of the Banuk tribe.
In the Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered game, there are numerous items to discover, and among these treasures are Banuk Artifacts. These artifacts narrate the tale of an individual who was banished from Banuk territories far before the arrival of the protagonist, Aloy. Notably, these artifacts are found in sets, and you can trade each set with a specific type of Merchant in Meridian for exclusive rewards. As such, many players prioritize finding them due to their unique benefits.
To complete your task in Horizon Zero Dawn, you’ll need to locate a total of six Banuk Artifacts spread across the game map. These artifacts are divided into three sets. While merchants can sell maps that provide rough locations, they won’t pinpoint the exact spot where each artifact is found. Additionally, all these artifacts are situated near steep cliffs and mountains, making it difficult to identify the starting points for your climbs.
Banuk Artifact #1: My Claim
The first Banuk Artifact can be found just North of the Devil’s Thirst Bandit Camp. This is the first Bandit Camp you’ll clear after you meet Nil, and the Figure is on the mountain nearby. When you reach the foot of the mountain, look for Banuk paintings and poles with handholds at the bottom of the cliff. Climb all the way to the top, following the handholds and walkways until you reach the Banuk Artifact. There should be a zipline you can glide down when you’re done.
Banuk Artifact #2: I Name You
Right before exiting Nora territories, you’ll discover the second Banuk Artifact near a tiny village known as Hunter’s Gathering. Start your ascent by locating a pole with grips within the settlement; it’s likely to be beside Gera who offers you a quest about her missing husband. Proceed scaling up the cliff face until you can safely touch the ground once more.
Starting forward, pass the zipline and ascend the mountain on your right side until you reach the collectible. If you should ever lose your way, keep an eye out for Banuk rock paintings – they’ll guide you towards the Artifact.
Banuk Artifact #3: Punishment
The Artifact you’re looking for is usually found close to the Banuk settlement, positioned on the north-eastern part of the map. You might embark on a quest titled “Investigate the Banuk Camp” at some point in time. This provides you with an opportunity to collect the Artifact either immediately or after completing that quest.
As you get close to the camp, search for a small cliff that runs along the right side of the mountain range. On this cliffside, you’ll find Banuk paintings. Nearby, you’ll notice a wooden pole with some fabric and handholds attached – this is where your climb starts. Continue ascending using the handholds, and you’ll eventually reach the end of the path, where you’ll discover the Banuk Artifact.
Banuk Artifact #4: I Cannot Confess
The next Banuk Artifact can be found West of Meridian on a large cliff. The easiest way to get to it is to travel to the campfire nearest to it, which is also near Brightmarket, and walk toward the map marker. You’re going to need to pass some Sawtooths and Bellowbacks, though, so make sure you’re ready for a fight or sneak past them.
As you get close to the marker, search for a pole resembling those at other Banuk Artifacts – featuring fabric and distinctive markings. Descend the cliff using that pole, then follow the zipline Aloy can traverse on foot to reach the Artifact.
From the base of the cliff, you too have the option to ascend towards the Figure. If you choose to begin your journey there, keep an eye out for Banuk paintings as you traverse between the Sawtooth and Longleg locations.
Banuk Artifact #5: The Vision
As a fan, I found myself having to exercise patience in my quest for the Banuk Artifact. It lies just south of Sunfall, a location Sylens advises avoiding until a crucial narrative moment is reached. However, once that milestone is met, you’re free to roam around Sunfall and ultimately claim your prize.
To proceed with your quest, locate the rock depicted earlier, which features a pole with grips in front of it. Commence your ascent from there. Although this rock is nearer to Sunfall than the artifact itself, access to the collectible can only be gained from this starting point. Just keep moving along the path until you can’t go any further, and you’ll reach your destination.
Banuk Artifact #6: Mother
In the Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered game, the final Banuk Artifact is hidden on the northern part of the map, nestled against a mountain situated south of Pitchcliff. Similar to the other figures, your search for the starting point involves moving towards the marker and seeking out Banuk paintings adorning the cliffside as your guide. Ascend the cliff by following the distinctive poles and paintings, and you’ll come across the Banuk Artifact that completes the last set of collectibles.
