All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker (& How to Unlock Them)

The game Hyper Light Breaker offers an abundance of choices for players, including various characters to select. These characters, known as Breakers, engage in combat against the Abyss King, each possessing distinct playstyles.

Discovering a fresh character within the realm of Hyper Light Breaker is relatively straightforward compared to certain other roguelikes. However, it might seem puzzling for players as the game doesn’t explicitly clarify how new Breakers can be acquired. Here’s a concise guide detailing all the characters in the game and the methods to obtain them.

This tutorial is specifically designed for the early-access phase of the game ‘Hyper Light Breaker’. At present, you can only play with two preliminary characters. As new characters, or Breakers, are added to the game, we’ll be sure to update this guide accordingly.

How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker

As a passionate player, I eagerly seek out Prisms, which serve as my keys to access the challenging arenas of the Crowns (bosses). To acquire these essential items, I must scour the map, guided by the golden diamond icon that leads me to them. Once I’ve conquered these bosses, they will reward me with the coveted Abyss Stones, which are the precious keys to unlocking new characters in the game.

After overcoming a boss, make your way back to the teleporter at the Cursed Outpost and choose the Breaker you wish to unlock. Use your Abyss Stones, and the chosen character will become playable. The game features nine characters in total, but as of now, only two can be unlocked by players. All that’s required is gathering Abyss Stones. Whether this process remains consistent for the other characters is yet to be determined.

All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker

In the game, every character begins with something called a SyCom, which is essential for the progression model. This SyCom determines a player’s initial stats and core abilities, shaping each character’s playstyle. These characteristics are crucial factors in choosing one character over another, as they significantly impact gameplay. Here’s an overview of each character and their unique playing styles:

1. Aria – A swift and agile Breaker with a focus on speed and mobility. Her abilities emphasize quick attacks and evasive maneuvers, making her ideal for players who prefer fast-paced combat.

2. Cade – A tanky character with high durability and health points. Cade’s playstyle revolves around absorbing damage and drawing enemy attention, making him an excellent choice for players who enjoy a more defensive approach.

3. Elara – A ranged Breaker, specializing in long-distance attacks and crowd control. Her abilities allow her to deal significant damage from afar while keeping enemies at bay, perfect for players who prefer to attack from a distance.

4. Jax – A versatile character with a balance of speed, power, and defense. Jax’s playstyle caters to those who enjoy a mix of offensive and defensive strategies, adapting well to various game situations.

5. Kairos – A powerful Breaker focused on dealing massive damage in close combat. His abilities prioritize heavy attacks and crowd control, making him a formidable choice for players who excel at melee fighting.

6. Lysandra – A support character with healing and buffing abilities, ideal for those who prefer a more strategic playstyle. Her abilities allow her to keep her teammates alive and boost their stats, ensuring the team’s success in battle.

Vermillion

Initially, players are given access to the character Vermillion, who arrives equipped with the default skill set known as Gunslinger SyCom. This ability enhances Vermillion’s stats, particularly for ranged combat. When Vermillion lands a critical hit with his Rail shots, the following shot is ensured to be another critical hit automatically.

For players who enjoy close-quarter combat, they can opt for the Tank SyCom, an unlockable feature that boosts armor when perfect parries are executed. Notably, Tank offers superior defensive and melee base stats compared to Gunslinger, making it a more secure choice in most situations.

Lapis

Similar to Vermillion, Lapis initially functions as a Breaker with a specialty in Rail weapons, equipped with the SyCom known as Lightweaver. This SyCom enhances the power of Rail shots after Lapis collects a Battery (ammo). However, what sets Lapis apart from Vermillion is her Warrior SyCom. This unique SyCom boosts Lapis’ core stats each time she receives an upgrade.

Lapis is exceptionally potent whether wielding one of her SyComs, yet Warrior significantly amplifies her destructive potential over time. Given sufficient enhancements, she’ll surpass other Breakers in sheer statistics, establishing herself as a formidable powerhouse.

Goro

Goro stands out with his range-focused abilities. Initially, his default SyCom, or role, is an Astrologer, which accelerates the charging of his Blade skills during target shooting. On the other hand, when unlocked, he can switch to a Sniper SyCom, significantly boosting his chance for critical hits.

This character, Goro, generally fits into the category of long-range, high-damage dealers, similar to a glass cannon. His ability to inflict damage is significantly greater than both Vermillion and Lapis. The downside is that he doesn’t have a defensive SyCom, which might make him challenging for players to utilize effectively. However, luck often favors the brave, so if you master Goro’s playstyle, he can prove to be an incredibly potent fighter in his own right.
