Erdrick’s gear is the strongest equipment in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake, offering excellent stats and abilities that are especially helpful when you’re facing the game’s toughest challenges. There’s also an achievement called ‘Erdrick’s Legacy’ for collecting the full set, so many players will want to find it all. This guide will show you exactly where to find every piece of Erdrick’s gear in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake.
Players must equip all of Erdrick’s gear in order to trigger the Erdrick’s Legacy achievement.
How to Get Erdrick’s Armour in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake
Beat Knight Aberrant in Damdara
You can get Erdrick’s Armour by defeating the Knight Aberrant in Damdara. Damdara is in the southwest part of the map. To find the Knight Aberrant, look for a small alcove near the center of Damdara, past the poison tiles. If you’re having trouble locating it, check the images provided.
You can defeat the Knight Aberrant using any strategy you like, but here are a few suggestions. Once you’ve beaten it, Erdrick’s Armour will appear as a shimmering light in the alcove.
- Reach Level 30+ before initiating the fight.
- Equip strong gear, such as the Siren Sword, Dragon Shield, Phantom Mask, and Dragon Mail.
- Use the Dodgy Dance ability as soon as the battle begins, and continually refresh the ability so that its effect is always active.
- Stay above 210 HP at all times, and stay about 275 HP when you are affected by the Knight Aberrant’s defense debuff. Dragon Quest 1‘s Moreheal spell makes maintaining that level of health fairly easy.
- Stick to standard Attacks, reserving MP for healing and Dodgy Dance.
Erdrick’s Armour offers strong protection with a defence of 118. Wearing it slowly restores your health as you move, and it keeps you safe from damage caused by swamps and electrified floors. Plus, it lessens the harm you take from spells and dragon breath.
How to Get Erdrick’s Shield in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake
Use the Ultimate Key in the Weeping Isle
To get Erdrick’s Shield in Dragon Quest 1, you first need to obtain the Ultimate Key as part of the game’s story. After you have the key, go back to the Weeping Isle and follow these instructions to find the ultimate chest where the shield is located.
- Follow the linear path until you reach the section of Weeping Isle – Exterior with three exits.
- Use the second exit, and continue until you reach another section of Weeping Isle – Exterior.
- The chest with the Erdrick’s Shield is at the end of the path.
Erdrick’s Shield offers 85 Defence and lowers damage from all spells and dragon breath attacks while it’s equipped.
How to Get Mark of Erdrick in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake
Shrine of the Spirit

How to Get Erdrick’s Helm in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake
Zalen’s Questline

As a Dragon Quest fan, I was really excited to get Erdrick’s Helm, and you get it by helping out Zalen! His quest involves tracking him down in a few different places. I’ve put together a quick guide to help you through it, and here’s the order you’ll need to visit each location:
- Forgotten Ruins
- Nameless Ruins
- Damdara
- Cantlin
- Galenholm
- Field of Flowers (after earning the Mark of Erdrick)
- Shrine of Rain
- Western Isle
As a longtime fan, I’m always excited to talk about the Erdrick’s Helm! It’s an amazing piece of armor, giving you a solid 76 points of defense. But it’s not just about physical protection – it seriously boosts your resistance to nasty status effects like sleep, confusion, and even instant death! Plus, if you’re a magic user, you’ll love that it makes your lightning spells even more powerful. It’s a must-have for any serious adventurer.
How to Get Erdrick’s Sword in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake
Dragonlord’s Castle
Okay, so if you’re looking for Erdrick’s Sword, you’ll find it in Dragonlord’s Castle – that’s the very last dungeon in the game. Here’s how I figured out how to get there:
- Use the stairs under the throne at the top of 1F.
- Follow the path until you reach B3, which has three exits. Use the exit in the top-left corner.
- On B4, use the middle exit, and follow the path to reach the center of B2.
- Ascend the red staircase, and walk down to find Erdrick’s Sword on B1.
Erdrick’s Sword adds 140 to your attack power. When used in battle, it creates a powerful whirlwind that damages all nearby enemies, and you can use it as often as needed.
