Okay, so the Winter Frost Event has hit Heartopia, and things are getting chilly! The waters are freezing over, and it’s brought in these cool, limited-time fish called Frostspore Fish. Basically, they’re just regular fish that have been changed by the super cold water around the island. You can spot them easily because they glow and look all frosty! If I want to complete my fish collection, I need to know the best places to find these guys.
Where to Find Winter Fish in Heartopia
Okay, so during the Winter Frost Event, you only find winter fish in the Old Sea – it’s right off the coast near Onsen Mountain. Seriously, don’t bother fishing anywhere else! Those special Frostspore Fish just don’t show up in rivers, lakes, or any other part of the ocean, so head straight to the Old Sea if you want to catch them.
To start catching Frostspore Fish, first find Vanya, the fishing expert. During the Winter Frost event, she moves to the northern beach of Onsen Mountain. Chat with her and finish the quick Winter Frost starting quest – that’s how you’ll unlock the ability to fish for Frostspore Fish.
You can catch all Frostspore Fish with just Fishing Level 1. Plus, they appear no matter the weather or time of day, so you don’t have to worry about waiting for anything special.
For a better chance of catching fish, we strongly suggest using both the Mermaid Fish Attractor and Perfume.
All Winter Fish and How to Catch Them
Frostspore King Crab
The Frostspore King crab, a large, icy creature, is found in the Old Sea. When you’re fishing, keep an eye out for a big shadow – that’s how you’ll spot it.
Frostspore Ocean Fish
This Frostspore is a mutated version of a typical ocean fish, and can be found in the Old Sea, often accompanied by a large, dark shadow.
Frostspore Puffer Fish
The Frostspore Puffer Fish looks small and icy, and when it appears in the Old Sea, it creates a shadow of moderate size.
Frostspore Seahorse
The Frostspore Fish is a small, delicate creature that’s hard to spot because it casts a faint shadow. You can find it in the Old Sea alongside other fish that appear during winter.
Frostspore Whale Shark
The Frostspore Whale Shark is an incredibly rare, legendary fish that only appears during winter events. To start trying to catch it, you first need to complete a quest from Vanya – just choose one of the first two options when you talk to her. This will unlock daily Frostspore Fishing Events, which you can join for free at 6 PM (server time).
Sometimes, a special bonus phase called “Lucky” can happen during gameplay. You’ll know it’s started if you see a message saying there’s “hidden movement in the water”. This is the only time the Frostspore Whale Shark can appear – it will randomly swim among the other fish shadows during this phase.
Okay, so I’ve been playing for a while now, and let me tell you, the Frostspore Whale Shark is super rare. I’ve finished a bunch of events and still haven’t seen one! Don’t get discouraged if you don’t find it right away.
