  • Road is a skilled navigator with odd quirks and a secretive dark side.

As the Straw Hats head towards Elbaf, we’re learning more about the Giants and their unique culture. A key group in this part of the story is the New Giant Warrior Pirates, a crew that promised to support Luffy after the events in Dressrosa.

At first, we only knew the captain, Hajrudin, but now each crew member has been given a name and a defined role. The recent chapters of the manga have revealed a lot about these pirates, and we’re sure to learn even more as the story continues. This guide will give you a quick overview of each character.

1. Road

A Fanboy Navigator

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 898, Cover Page
  • Anime Debut: Episode 836

The Straw Hats’ arrival in Elbaf doesn’t go as planned – after celebrating, half the crew vanishes. They soon learn that Road, the navigator of the New Giant Warrior Pirates, is responsible. He has a strange hobby: secretly, he pretends to be a god and kidnaps people to keep as ‘pets’ in a miniature world he creates. But outwardly, he’s very shy and clumsy.

Although he has a strange personality, he’s a remarkably talented navigator who’s been making maps since he was a child. While we haven’t seen much proof, it’s likely he was the one who guided the crew to Ohara to recover the archaeologists’ research. Despite his inappropriate and unusual behavior, which often leads to him being punished, he’s deeply loyal to his crew.

2. Goldberg

The Easygoing Chef

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 899, Cover Page
  • Anime Debut: Episode 836

Goldberg is the team’s chef. While his skills aren’t widely known, he’s a friendly and approachable person who enjoys sharing his knowledge and helping others. He generally remains calm and offers sensible solutions, but he’s not afraid to step in and address issues if someone goes too far.

Having known Hajrudin since childhood, Goldberg shares a remarkably close and trusting bond with the captain. Despite his calm and easygoing nature, Goldberg is surprisingly powerful, fighting with a mace and a unique shield named Nash. Nash isn’t just a shield, though – it’s a special being created by Big Mom who can change size to better defend against attacks. Goldberg also played a key role in rescuing books from Ohara and transporting them to Elbaf.

3. Stansen

The Strong And Sturdy Shipwright

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 500
  • Anime Debut: Episode 394

Stenson wasn’t actually a recent addition to the story; he appeared briefly before the two-year time skip. He was among those being sold as slaves on the Sabaody Archipelago, but was rescued by Rayleigh and Luffy during a raid on the auction house. He’s been deeply thankful to them ever since. Now, he works as a shipwright for the New Giant Warrior Pirates, responsible for repairing and maintaining their ship, the Nagalfar.

Stenson wasn’t raised alongside the rest of the crew, but he remains close to them and has complete faith in Hajrudin. As a warrior from Elbaf, he’s exceptionally strong and resilient – demonstrated by how easily he survived the crew’s fall from the Sun Realm to the Underworld, even laughing it off. While he once trained with a sword, he now prefers to fight with a massive hammer.

4. Gerd

A No-Nonsense Doctor

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 866
  • Anime Debut: Episode 836

Gerd is the crew’s doctor, but she surprisingly doesn’t mind violence and even uses physical punishment, especially on Road, who frequently misbehaves. She even seemed pleased when Luffy unintentionally hurt the recovering Loki, all while continuing to provide medical care. Gerd is incredibly strong, wielding an axe and capable of knocking Road unconscious with a single blow.

I’m really excited about Gerd! She’s one of Hajrudin’s oldest friends and has always been there for him since they were kids. What’s *amazing* is she’s a doctor, but she can also talk to animals! Plus, she makes full-sized clothes – how cool is that? We just met her properly, but she actually showed up briefly before as someone connected to Big Mom in a flashback. It’s great to see she’s since decided Big Mom’s actions against the giants were wrong and turned against her!

5. Hajrudin

A Captain Who Could Be King

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 706
  • Anime Debut: Episode 639

Hajrudin, captain of the New Giant Warrior Pirates, was the first to swear allegiance to Luffy after witnessing his bravery in Dressrosa. He initially joined the competition hoping to win the Flame-Flame Fruit, believing it would help him achieve his dream of becoming king of Elbaf. Despite being a prince, his mother wasn’t of royal blood, which prevents him from being considered a true heir, but he’s still determined to prove himself.

Hajrudin’s difficult childhood made him very open-minded and free from prejudice, as shown by his immediate acceptance of Road despite initial resistance. He’s generally polite and principled, but his feelings shift dramatically when it comes to his half-brother, Loki, who he believes murdered their father. A deeply troubled past with Loki fuels Hajrudin’s anger and has created a strained, hostile relationship between them.
