In Borderlands 4, Ordnance serves as a fresh feature for all gamers, offering a new skill set that delves deeper into character customization and chaos. As players engage in combat against both Rippers and Order foes within Kairos, understanding Ordnance weapons becomes crucial. These formidable arms can simplify even the toughest boss battles, provided players are familiar with them, the different types of Ordnance available, and why they’re a worthwhile investment.
All Ordnance Weapon Types in Borderlands 4

In the following, you’ll find a list of ordnance items that players might encounter within their respective game worlds: These ordnance items are classified into two main categories – grenades and heavy weaponry.
| Weapon Type | Ordnance Type | How it Works |
|---|---|---|
| Light Machine Gun | Heavy Weapon | Hold the trigger to make the barrels shoot faster, expunging more ammo but increasing DPS. |
| Rocket Launcher | Heavy Weapon | Hold the trigger for faster-firing rockets for deadly explosives, just be mindful of using it up close. |
| Plasma Cannon | Heavy Weapon | Hold the trigger to see a crackling beam stick to enemies for ticking damage. |
| Grenade | Grenade | Throw to see an explosive effect, which changes depending on the weapon manufacturer, meaning it might be an impact grenade, a splash grenade, or even a delayed one. |
| Throwing Knife | Grenade | Throw to see this projectile stab enemies, where aiming for heads and other critical hit spots will provide more damage. |
What Are Ordnance Weapons?
In simpler terms, ordnance weapons are not part of your primary weapons you carry, but instead, they have their designated space. To use an ordnance weapon, press R1/RB/G. After using it, there’s a waiting period before you can use it again, which varies from just a few seconds to almost a minute, depending on the specific weapon and the amount of ammo used. The ordnance slot is exclusively for grenades and heavy weapons, and it cannot be fired during Fight for Your Life mode. However, these weapons can inflict massive damage, have upgrade options after level 25, and each Vault Hunter has skills specifically for boosting their power with these weapons.
