All Resources & Currencies in Saros

Saros features a variety of resources players will collect as they play. Many of these act as currencies, used primarily to improve your abilities and equipment. While the game explains what each resource does, this Saros guide provides a comprehensive overview if you need extra help.

All Resources & Currencies in Saros

Lucenite

Early in the game, you’ll find Lucenite – small, yellow crystal pieces found throughout the world, either hidden in side areas or dropped by enemies. Collecting Lucenite raises your proficiency, which makes your character stronger. It’s a good idea to pick up any Lucenite you find!

During a run, collecting Lucenite not only helps you during that attempt, but also lets you unlock improvements to your armor back at the Passage. You’ll be able to unlock many of these upgrades with the Lucenite you find. If you fail a run, you won’t lose all your collected Lucenite, but you will lose a good portion of it.

Halcyon

Halcyon is a rarer currency than Lucenite, and it appears as glowing purple pickups during gameplay. While you won’t get any immediate benefit from collecting it during a run, it’s crucial for upgrading your Armor Matrix back at the Passage, so be sure to grab it whenever you see it.

As you play and finish different areas of the game, you’ll mostly find Halcyon by opening red containers – these often let you choose Halcyon as a reward. Certain enemies will also drop it. When you’re picking a new area on the World Dial, you can see how much Halcyon it holds. Once you’ve collected all the Halcyon an area offers, you won’t find any more there.

After you return Halcyon to the Passage, you’ll be able to unlock helpful upgrades like Second Chance, which gives you an extra life and makes each attempt at the run more manageable.

Aether

In Saros, Aether is the only way to heal. You’ll find it throughout the game – it can be lying around, dropped by enemies, or hidden in red chests. Aether comes in three sizes – small, medium, and large – and each size restores a different amount of health.

Aether is easy to spot because it glows bright green. Even when you’re at full health, you can still interact with it by pressing Triangle to turn its healing energy into Lucenite – it won’t give you much, but it’s better than nothing! You can also increase how often Aether appears by upgrading your Armor Matrix.

Simply using Aether won’t remove the corruption you’ve built up; you’ll need to perform a special action, called a Power Move, to get rid of it.

Artifacts

Artifacts are a key part of the game and can significantly change how each playthrough goes. You get them by opening white or red chests. These artifacts boost one of three main stats and give you helpful passive abilities – like taking an extra hit after opening a chest, building Power faster, and other useful effects.

As a big fan of the game, I’ve learned that when an Eclipse is happening, some of the items you find can actually hurt you – it’s kinda like the parasites in Returnal. They can mess with your weapons, making them jam when you get hit, or slow down your dash. So, you really have to think twice before grabbing those corrupted artifacts!

If you repeatedly choose items that boost the same stat, you’ll eventually hit a point called Attribute Volatility. This prevents you from improving that stat through normal means, but it does let you exceed the usual maximum. However, pushing past that limit has downsides – you might lose visibility of enemy health, be unable to see status effects, or experience other drawbacks. You’ll need to decide if the extra power is worth these trade-offs.

Acolyte’s Wager

Acolyte’s Wager is an item that lets you change the attributes of weapons and artifacts. It doesn’t appear at the beginning of the game, but you’ll typically find it in white chests. This is really helpful if you’re trying to get a specific type of weapon or want certain qualities on an artifact.

Acolyte’s Wagers are rare at the beginning of a run, but you can unlock upgrades in the Armor Matrix that let you start with a reroll. You can unlock up to five of these starting rerolls. If your inventory is full, rerolls are also useful for getting rid of unwanted items to make room for better ones.
