The world of Pokémon is celebrating its 30th anniversary on February 27th, marking the release date of the very first games, Pokémon Red and Green, in Japan back in 1996. Over the past three decades, Pokémon has grown into a massive franchise, evolving with each new gaming console and introducing new generations of Pokémon. As the anniversary approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating an announcement from The Pokémon Company and Game Freak about the next installment in the Pokémon game series, and there’s a lot of speculation about what they have planned.
To mark the anniversary, The Pokémon Company has announced some special merchandise and, unexpectedly, confirmed that Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen will be released on the Nintendo Switch shortly after the Pokémon Presents presentation on February 27th.
A new Pokémon Presents livestream is happening on Friday, February 27th at 6 am Pacific Time / 9 am Eastern Time. The presentation is expected to share lots of news about Pokémon games, including updates, trailers, and community events. This one is set to be around 25 minutes long – one of the longest Pokémon Presents in recent memory – and will cover games from the very beginning of the series all the way to what could be the next generation, Pokémon Gen 10. You can watch it live on the official Pokémon channels on YouTube and Twitch.
The Pokémon Company has been sharing some anniversary treats, but it’s clear they’re saving even bigger reveals for later. The announcement for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was relatively short, lasting just 14 minutes. With lots of speculation about what’s planned for Pokémon Day 2026, here’s a look at what fans should keep an eye on in the meantime.
The Biggest Reveal is Pokemon Wind and Wave (Gen 10)
The biggest reveal from the leaks appears to be Generation 10 of Pokémon, currently titled Pokémon Wind and Wave. Like the announcement for Generation 9, the initial reveal may focus primarily on the new starter Pokémon and not much else. Currently, very little is known about the plans for Pokémon Wind and Wave beyond its existence. However, this year’s Pokémon Presents is expected to be longer than last year’s, suggesting fans might get a more detailed look at what’s coming. Regardless, the Pokémon Presents will start a months-long marketing campaign leading up to the likely Fall/Winter 2026 release of the new games.
Not much information has surfaced about development of Pokemon Wind and Wave, but we know quite a bit about the new Pokemon games themselves. A major leak, known as Teraleak 2, in late 2025 revealed several key details, and more information has continued to emerge. Recently, a model of the entire Pokemon Wind and Wave region was leaked, and details like the return of the Dive feature have also been revealed.
Please keep in mind that all of this information comes from early leaks and may not be completely accurate or final. While these “Teraleaks” are generally considered quite trustworthy, it’s still best to view everything with a bit of skepticism.
- The box legendaries are described as a “wind grandpa” and “wave grandma”
- A Pokemon hotel will serve as a player hub
- The new region is inspired by Southeast Asia
- Starters will be obtained during a traffic jam, in which the protagonist is asked to capture the Pokemon
- Pokemon Gen 10 may have a scooter or expansive ride features, though some leaks suggest this has been scaled back from its original vision
- The Gen 10 Battle Gimmick is related to the weather
- Pokemon Wind and Wave may have procedurally generated content tied to a special Pokemon or special areas in the games.
- The procedurally generated Pokemon has been referred to as a “Seed Pokemon” needed to face legendaries.
- There will be raid battles, social hubs, and shareable maps.
- Pokemon Wind and Wave will redesign several new models, fitting given that Gen 10 is a big step forward from a numbered gen standpoint.
- Pokemon Gyms and Titan Pokemon are intermixed, with a total of 18 challenges spread across the region.
- Gyms: Grass, Poison, Flying, Fighting, Dark, Normal, Steel, and Fairy
- Titans: Fire, Psychic, Ice, Ground, Rock, Ghost
- Elite Four: Electric, Water, Bug, and Dragon
- Players are able to challenge the Gen 10 final boss right away and get one ending, should they be so skilled.
- Pokemon Wind and Wave will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Will Get a Little Love
Riddler Khu, a trusted source of Pokemon leaks, suggests that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will receive some special content on Pokemon Day. This will likely be a giveaway featuring the Pokemon with Pokedex numbers 1017 (Ogerpon) and 1024 (Terapagos). While details are still scarce, fans anticipate learning more during the upcoming Pokemon Presents presentation.
Other Rumored Pokemon Reveals
Twenty-five minutes is a significant amount of time, especially considering the many Pokémon games and products available. While we can expect glimpses of most titles at the showcase, Pokémon Pokopia (launching in March) will likely be a major focus due to its upcoming release. Beyond the expected announcements, there’s a good chance we’ll see some unexpected surprises. This is a special occasion – the Pokémon franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary, a milestone few video game series achieve with such enduring popularity.
