This shield is an excellent choice for defensive-minded players, although it may not possess the smooth finesse associated with a parry shield.
4 Stone Wall Shield

- Shield Slam: Double Tap L1 to Shield Slam, Launching enemies when fully charged. Block attacks to absorb the hit and build up charge.

However, this shield offers benefits such as increased stun damage on enemies when used with a Shield Bash and upon successful Parries. But be aware that the required quick input for these maneuvers can sometimes trip up players who are not accustomed to it.
2 Guardian Shield
Unlocked in Main Quest: The Word of Fate
- Shield Check: Double Tap L1 to quickly Shield Check an enemy and break their guard.
- Parry: (Press L1 right before getting hit) to deal Stun to the attacker and empower your next Shield Bash. Time the Parry perfectly to significantly improve this effect.
The Guardian Shield carries an old-world charm, making it challenging not to place it at a higher position. Beyond its nostalgic value, associated with Kratos’ late wife, Faye, it also serves as a reliable defense mechanism during combat encounters that he’s accustomed to.

The Spartan Aspis shield has a distinct visual style that combines Kratos’ Spartan past with the Guardian Shield. The best visuals, and arguably the best shield for the most skilled players, the Spartan Aspis is reliable thanks to its Shield Check and Parry, but it also has an element of risk due to the smaller Parry window.
As a seasoned gamer, I’ve found that the Spartan Aspis truly showcases Kratos’ raw power and brutality with its enhanced counterattack during Parries. Interestingly, this powerful move can only be unlocked in New Game Plus, implying that by then, players should have already honed their Parry skills to perfection.
