Most puzzles in Silent Hill f unlock key items needed to continue the story. Sometimes, these puzzles aren’t simple – they can last throughout an entire chapter. A good example is the puzzle in the Shimizu Residence, where you have to find crests hidden in various rooms or earn them by solving smaller puzzles.
This guide shows you where to find all the crests needed to finish the game chapter, and it also explains how to solve the puzzle in My Room in *Silent Hill f*.
Here’s the solution to the puzzle at the main ending. We’re also working on adding solutions for all the other endings and will update this guide soon.
All Crest Locations in Silent Hill (Shimizu Residence)
When you enter the Shimizu Residence I, you’ll find the “My Room” puzzle on the right wall after passing the Hokora Shrine. To the right of the puzzle is a hallway with a red door at the end – that’s where you need to go in this chapter, but it’s locked for now. First, take the calendar next to the door, then return to the puzzle.
You’ll find a place to put the calendar, and doing so will illuminate an area, opening the way to the second floor. Once you’ve done that, you won’t need anything else from this floor, so you can head upstairs immediately.
Where to Find the First Crest
After arriving at Shimizu Residence II, continue forward to locate the Hokora shrine. Before reaching the shrine, take the path to the left, which leads to a room containing the calendar needed to access the third floor. From the Hokora, proceed straight ahead and turn left at the end of the path. Continue forward until you encounter an enemy spawner. You can choose to fight this enemy, as the creatures it summons can be troublesome. On the left side, you’ll also find a Blessed Hand Mirror, which functions as a protective charm (Omamori). If you would normally die, this mirror will instead restore your health and sanity, but it breaks after being used.
The Scales puzzle is located at the end of the hallway on the left. It involves balancing wooden dolls on a scale. To get the Scales Plate, place the doll without a head on the left side of the scale and all the other dolls on the right side.
Where to Find the Second Crest
After finding the calendar and Scales Plate, leave Hokora and turn right. Don’t worry about the locked doors – just continue down the hallway until you encounter the enemy and defeat it. To your left at the end of the hall, you’ll find a door leading to a room where you can pick up the Picture Frame. Once you have it, go to the third floor.
In the Shimizu Residence III, the Hokora is located in a familiar spot. After saving your progress, go right and interact with the door immediately after visiting the Hokora. You’ll find a shelf you can examine to discover your diary, which contains a Block of Wax. Take the wax and then head down the left hallway.
This area has a lot of enemies, so watch your step as you head to the kitchen. You’ll find the Propane Tube right beside the stove. Once you have everything we talked about, go down to the first floor. In the center of this floor is a dining room, which contains the room with the Ominous Picture and a puzzle you need to solve.
Okay, so this room has a bunch of ways to get in. To solve the puzzle, you need to put the Picture Frame on the blank space and then turn it – that’ll make the family photo fall and show a crest! Once you do that, a really annoying blind enemy will pop up. Seriously, watch out for their grabs, because they’ll drain your Sanity *and* your health. After you deal with that enemy, you can finally grab the White Bird and Fox Plate.
Where to Find the Third Crest
With the second crest in hand and the puzzle solved, the area has transformed, and you’ll now encounter more enemies on the floors above. Head down to the kitchen – it’s on the first floor, in the bottom left corner. There, you can attach the propane tube and use the heat to melt the Block of Wax, uncovering the Fletching Key.
Now that you have the Fletching Key, head back to the third floor. Be careful, as there are many enemies there. Your goal is the main dining room, which is on the left side of the floor, across from the kitchen. Use the key to unlock the dining room and watch the cutscene that plays. Once inside, take the Black Bird and Sword Plate from the table, then return to the first floor.
If you’re playing on an easier difficulty, you can often just run past enemies to avoid using up your health potions and damaging your weapons.
How to Solve the My Room Puzzle in Silent Hill f (Shimizu Residence)
Now that you have the crests, return to the puzzle and activate the panel. This will scramble the crest order. To fix it, consult your Journal for clues. Place the Sword Plate on the far left. For the bottom position, place the Scales Plate and turn it over so the image isn’t visible. Leave the crest in the top spot as it is, and put the Fox Plate on the right.
If you position all the crests correctly, you’ll receive the Pine Tree Emblem. You can use this emblem to unlock the red door where you first heard Shu speak.
The solution to this puzzle changes if you’re playing the game again and aiming for a different ending.
