In StarRupture, simply building factories and launching materials isn’t enough to survive. Whenever you venture outside, a complex set of hidden systems begins to impact you. These systems subtly control how far you can explore, how long you can battle, and how well-equipped you are to face the challenges of Arcadia-7.
StarRupture doesn’t clearly explain its gameplay systems, leading to frustrating and unexpected deaths at first. However, once you learn what each stat actually does, the game becomes much more understandable. You’ll move beyond simply reacting to what’s happening on screen and start making strategic decisions about your path, food, and character improvements. This guide will explain every stat in the game and how to use them effectively.
All Stats in StarRupture & How to Manage Them
Pressing the Tab key brings up your character overview, where you can check your core stats. These include five meters – Shield, Health, Calories, Hydration, and Toxicity – which fluctuate depending on your actions and environment.
There’s a sixth stat called Stamina, which isn’t shown as prominently as the others, but it’s crucial for survival. Stamina determines how long you can run, jump, dodge, and fight before becoming exhausted. In StarRupture, you’ll need to carefully balance all six stats to stay alive.
Shield
As a movie buff, I think of Shield like a protective layer in an action scene – it’s that blue bar you see above your health. Basically, it takes the hit for you! When enemies attack or you run into something dangerous, your Shield goes down first. The cool thing is, if you play carefully and avoid getting hurt for a bit, it automatically refills itself, so you’re ready for the next challenge.
Your shields automatically recharge, and improving them permanently increases how much damage they can absorb. This means you can generally stay in combat longer without needing to use healing supplies, as long as enemies aren’t actively damaging your health.
Health
Your health is represented by the red bar under your shield. If it reaches zero, you’ll die and respawn at your Regeneration Chamber. Don’t worry, you’ll keep your equipped gear, but any items you were carrying will be dropped where you fell.
To fully heal in StarRupture, you must physically go back to where you died and collect the items dropped from your character.
As a big fan of immersive games, I quickly learned that in StarRupture, your health doesn’t just automatically recover like some games. You actually have to use healing items – the Medtool is the main one, and once you unlock it, it becomes your go-to for patching yourself up while you’re out exploring.
Calories
Okay, so in StarRupture, your calorie count is basically how much energy your character has. And it’s constantly going down, which is kinda rough! Seriously, it doesn’t matter what you’re doing – whether you’re digging for resources, constructing stuff, or just wandering around the planet Arcadia-7 – you’re always burning through calories. It’s a constant drain, so you really need to keep an eye on it.
If your calorie level falls to zero, you’ll start losing health over time. It’s possible to starve to death even in a safe area if you don’t pay attention to your calorie meter and keep focusing on things like building.
Need to restore your energy (Calories)? Just eat Polifruit – it’s readily available and can be eaten right away. Get into the habit of picking it up whenever you see it and eating some when your energy bar gets low. Later in the game, once you unlock cooking in StarRupture, you’ll be able to make more filling meals that restore more Calories and often give you extra benefits. This means you’ll need to stop and snack less often.
Hydration
Staying hydrated is similar to managing calories. Both gradually decrease, and if either drops too low, you’ll start taking damage over time. Letting both hydration and calories get too low is a quick way to lose health, even if you’re not being attacked.
You can regain hydration by eating Hydrobulbs. Once you unlock the cooking station, you can also use them to make even better food that restores hydration and other stats.
Toxicity
Toxicity works differently than other stats. It only increases when you eat or use items specifically designed to raise it, such as powerful, but potentially harmful, food buffs.
Reaching 100 Toxicity in the game results in harsh penalties. Fortunately, you can easily reduce your Toxicity level before it maxes out by consuming food crafted with Purplant.
Stamina
Stamina powers all your movement – running, sprinting, dodging, and jumping. If your Stamina gets too low, you’ll move slower and won’t be able to quickly avoid danger. Often, running out of Stamina is riskier than losing health, because being stuck in one place can lead to immediate defeat.
You can restore your Stamina by eating foods containing Serpent Root. These foods help you regain Stamina and move faster, but they also build up Toxicity, so use them with caution.
Although food, potions, and natural healing are helpful, using LEMs is the best way to permanently boost your stats. You can discover LEMs fairly early in the game, but you’ll first need to unlock the LEM Station to be able to use them.
