As an old-time cowboy who’s been roaming the wild west of Red Dead Redemption for what seems like a lifetime, I’ve stumbled upon my fair share of hidden treasures and secret stashes. But these here treasure maps you’ve got here, they’re some of the best I’ve seen!
Finishing the Treasure Hunter Missions in Red Dead Redemption offers numerous advantages, and monetary rewards are merely one aspect. These tasks serve as optional activities that could leave you puzzled if you haven’t been meticulously discovering locations within the game world. The maps you uncover will contain a degree of detail, but they will only become clear if you remain observant for intriguing elements while completing missions.
All the Treasure Hunter Challenges are fairly easy to complete. However, you will need to do quite a few main story missions in Red Dead Redemption until you can unlock all the areas that the Treasure Chests are found in. For example, Tall Trees cannot be accessed until you complete the “An Appointed Time” mission in Nuevo Paraíso to unlock the West Elizabeth area. If you’re playing organically, it may take you quite some time till you wrap up all the Treasure Hunter Challenges and get the rewards.
Locations Of All Treasure Chests In Red Dead Redemption
During the early stages of the game, you’ll have an opportunity for a chance meeting that lets you kick off the challenges. Following this random encounter, you’ll receive a Treasure Map. Gathering each Treasure Chest along the way will reward you with a Gold Bar and a map to the next destination.
In the game Red Dead Redemption, it’s possible to offload your loot at any store in any town, but it’s wise to keep your “Honor” level in mind. Basically, if you’re aiming for a dishonorable playthrough, you’ll earn 50% more money at Thieves’ Landing, but you’ll get 50% less everywhere else. Conversely, if you maintain high Honor, this bonus reverses and you’ll make less at Thieves’ Landing while earning more elsewhere. In essence, by making a strategic choice about where to sell your goods, you can boost your earnings in the game.
In the following list, you’ll find the exact spots where you can gather Treasure Chests to accomplish the Treasure Hunter Challenges within the game “Red Dead Redemption”.
Rank | Precise Location | Rewards | Map |
---|---|---|---|
Treasure Hunter #1 | The random encounter to save the Treasure Hunter may occur anywhere in the desert, but the probability is higher around Armadillo. It may take place on the way back from Pleasance House after the “Political Realities in Armadillo” mission or anytime afterward. | Treasure Map | |
Treasure Hunter #2 | To get the first Treasure Chest in Red Dead Redemption, travel to The Hanging Rock—it is placed above Armadillo and to the right of Cholla Springs. Circle around the outcropping until you see a gap with some bushes. The treasure is hidden there next to a smaller rock. | Rhodes’ Gold ($100) | |
Treasure Hunter #3 | Go to Del Lobo Rock on the cliff by the river. Go past the small camp setting and through the narrow path besides the big rock. Walk/slide down the cliffside to the second-lowest layer and head left for the treasure. Since you will be far from the nearest town, use a Campsite to Fast Travel back. | Jackson’s Gold ($125) | |
Treasure Hunter #4 | Head to the big abandoned mansion on a cliffside, to the left of Tumbleweed. Find the entrance to the basement and head inside. The treasure is to the right of the wall ahead. | Calhoun’s Gold ($150) | |
Treasure Hunter #5 | Travel to the thin country road above Rio del Toro. It is on the river bank opposite Plainview and Fort Mercer. This Treasure Chest in Red Dead Redemption is next to a rock fence overlooking the shore. | Tubman’s Gold ($175) | |
Treasure Hunter #6 | Head to the cactus icon just a bit north of Escalera. Find a pair of outcroppings and climb the tallest one. The treasure is on the tallest climbable level. | Brown’s Gold ($200) | |
Treasure Hunter #7 | Head south-west of Ojo del Diablo, which itself is south of Chuparosa. This Treasure Chest in Red Dead Redemption is on the cliff’s lower layer, a bit above the country road. | Douglass’ Gold ($225) | |
Treasure Hunter #8 | Travel to Roca de Madera, west of Casa Madruga. From there, head west till you reach the cliffside and see massively tall rocks. Follow the left path that is one level lower than the top. Keep following the narrow ledge till you reach the treasure. | Garrison’s Gold ($300) | |
Treasure Hunter #9 | For the penultimate Treasure Chest in Red Dead Redemption, make your way to Beecher’s Hope. Go to the right side of the triangular pathway on the map, right of the Beecher’s Hope lettering when zoomed in. The treasure is buried next to the rock fence by the giant tree. | Pickett’s Gold ($400) | |
Treasure Hunter #10 | Head straight north from Tall Trees. Climb the cliff’s narrow, winding path to reach a small clearing that has a cave. Enter it to find the final Treasure Chest. Note that this area is crawling with grizzly bears, one of the hardest animals to kill in Red Dead Redemption. | Stonewall’s Gold ($500) |
