Returning to a Galaxy Far Far Away…

The first Star Wars movie throws you right into the excitement! The villain, Darth Vader (voiced by James Earl Jones), attacks Princess Leia Organa (played by Carrie Fisher) and her ship because she’s helping the Rebel Alliance fight against the powerful Empire. After Leia witnesses the devastating destruction of her home planet, Alderaan, by the Empire’s new superweapon – the Death Star – she is captured. Unbeknownst to the Empire, plans for the Death Star, including a critical weakness, have been secretly obtained by a small R2 unit.

Princess Leia also left a message for Obi-Wan Kenobi, the former Jedi Knight, hidden inside the quirky R2 unit. Obi-Wan is currently in hiding on the desert planet Tatooine. A young farm boy, Luke Skywalker, eventually finds the droid—and the message—after buying it from some local Jawa traders. He knows of a Ben Kenobi, who is actually the legendary Jedi. It turns out Kenobi recently saved Luke from an attack by raiders—the same raiders who killed Luke’s aunt and uncle.

Now alone, Kenobi tells Luke he knew his father, another Jedi Knight who fought with him during the Clone Wars. Kenobi then begins Luke’s training in the ways of the Force while also working to rescue the Princess, hoping to turn the tide of the ongoing civil war in favor of the Rebels. To escape the planet, they need a pilot and find two unlikely allies: the charismatic smugglers Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew).
