Many users are currently unable to access Amazon Web Services (AWS), including the Amazon website itself. AWS is Amazon’s cloud computing division, offering a variety of on-demand technology services online. Because so many online services – from video games and smart doorbells to voice assistants – depend on AWS, even a small problem with AWS can cause disruptions across the internet.
Amazon Web Services and Many Sites Using It Are Experiencing Problems
Starting around midnight PST on October 20th, many Amazon customers began experiencing issues with the website. While you can still browse products, information like order status and account details weren’t available. Users also reported problems with their shopping carts and difficulty completing purchases. The problems extend beyond the main Amazon site, impacting Amazon Web Services and several companies that rely on it, including Alexa, Ring, Snapchat, Crunchyroll, and Canva. Popular games like Roblox and Fortnite were also affected. Twitch appears to be working normally, but Amazon Luna and Amazon Prime Gaming are currently unavailable.
AWS has experienced outages before, but the current problem is one of the biggest disruptions of 2025 so far. As of now, the AWS service health dashboard shows one service completely down and 26 others affected, primarily in the US-EAST-1 Region – a major data center. AWS engineers are working to identify the cause of and fix “increased error rates and slow performance” across several services.
