The development of Amazon Prime Video’s version of God of War has been ongoing for some time, leaving fans curious about its progress. Recently, the showrunner offered an enticing update on the production of the TV series that will undoubtedly delight fans of Santa Monica Studio’s PlayStation smash hit. Interestingly, Amazon has already commissioned a second season of the God of War TV series before the first one even airs, but this isn’t all the good news.

In late 2022, plans for the adaptation of God of War faced potential issues when Sony and Amazon changed their creative approach, having previously written several scripts for the first season. However, the series quickly found a new leader in Ronald D. Moore, creator of Star Trek, which was met with great relief by the game’s dedicated fanbase. Now, it seems that the adaptation, originally conceptualized by David Jaffe, is on track as Moore provides an optimistic update about the future of the Amazon Prime series.

God of War’s Scripts for TV Series Are Currently Being Worked on With Cory Barlog

According to Screen Rant’s report from San Diego Comic-Con 2025, God of War’s showrunner Ronald D. Moore has begun scripting for the series alongside Cory Barlog. Despite Moore’s lack of experience adapting video games, he mentions that he’s enjoying the process of bringing the popular PlayStation game to life, despite not quite knowing what challenges he might encounter.

I may not be able to express how passionate I am about this project, but let me share that we are currently developing the scripts, and it is truly an extraordinary universe. This property has a complex mythology with numerous interconnected elements. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Corey Barlog, who leads the creative team for the games, and he’s incredibly knowledgeable about the mythology, having it memorized almost verbatim. If you ask him something like, “Why did Kratos do this?”, he can go on for hours because of his deep understanding of the subject matter. I must admit that delving into such a meticulously crafted and intricate environment has been an incredible experience for me. Although I haven’t worked on a video game adaptation before, I can honestly say that it has been enjoyable.

While it may not be a significant leap forward, the recent glimpse into the progress of the eagerly awaited series is indeed thrilling. Moreover, fans can look forward to the fact that Moore is collaborating closely with Cory Barlog to ensure the adaptation accurately reflects the games, given that Moore isn’t well-versed in the original material.

Previously, Moore admitted that while he might attempt playing the God of War games, he doesn’t consider himself a gamer because he spent his childhood in the 1980s arcade era and is more accustomed to just hitting buttons rather than mastering complex controls. He jokingly mentioned his struggles with modern controllers and confusion over which button does what, often resulting in him dying in games as he spends too much time figuring it out. “Modern controllers are a puzzle for me… Press R1, but which is R1? I’ve just died! I find it hard to grasp the controls,” Moore confessed.

At present, no additional information has been disclosed regarding Amazon’s God of War television series. Here’s hoping for casting news and further significant updates in the near future!
