Amazon has chosen an actor to play Kratos in its live-action God of War series. The show is now in the early stages of production and the team is beginning to fill out the cast.
It used to be hard to get excited about a God of War TV show, because so many video game adaptations had been disappointing. But now, thanks to the success of shows like Amazon’s Fallout and HBO’s The Last of Us, we know it is possible to make great TV shows based on games.
I’m so excited! It looks like the God of War TV show is really happening, and they’ve finally cast Kratos! Apparently, Ryan Hurst is going to be playing him, according to DiscussingFilm on Twitter/X. I think he’s a great choice!

Ryan Hurst is a versatile actor with a long list of credits in television and film. You might recognize him from roles in popular projects like Saving Private Ryan, Sons of Anarchy, and The Walking Dead. He’s also a voice actor, having brought characters like Lobo in Superman: Man of Tomorrow and Chupacabra in Axe Cop to life.
Ryan Hurst, known for his role as Thor in the video game God of War Ragnarok, is also connected to the upcoming God of War TV series. While it’s currently unknown who will portray Thor in the show, the series is set in the same timeline as the newer games, beginning with the 2018 God of War, so he’s expected to appear at some point.
Ryan Hurst is also known for his role as Thor in the video game God of War Ragnarok.
Christopher Judge convincingly embodies Kratos both visually and vocally, and his history with the game series makes him a perfect choice for the role. He’ll need to commit to a rigorous fitness routine for the foreseeable future, as the part requires a powerfully built, bare-chested physique – meaning lots of exercise and a strict diet.
