Several developers working on King of Meat at Glowmade, the game studio owned by Amazon Games, will lose their jobs in January 2026.
The studio’s game, King of Meat, had a rough start, falling far short of the company’s goals, according to sources who spoke with TopMob. They described the launch as a failure.
TopMob’s internal documents reveal that leadership aimed for the game to reach 100,000 concurrent players, provided the company remained private. However, the game consistently fell short, never even reaching 1,000 players across all platforms. SteamDB data shows a peak of only 320 concurrent players.
Even with a large marketing budget – including a special video from popular YouTuber MrBeast, collaborations with many content creators, branded buses in London, and even a pilot for an animated TV show – the game still struggled.
The studio reportedly started talking with employees about voluntary layoffs earlier this month, impacting about a dozen people. Sources who wished to remain anonymous, because they weren’t allowed to discuss internal company matters with the press, said these cuts were surprising, as leaders had previously told staff they had enough funding to continue operating.
It’s currently unclear what Glowmade’s plans are for King of Meat and any future projects.
