At the CES 2025 tech expo in Las Vegas, AMD has formally revealed their latest Ryzen 9000 series processors during a press gathering.
AMD unveiled the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D processors as their initial offerings. The top-tier Ryzen 9 9950X3D comes equipped with 16 cores and 32 threads. This high-end CPU boasts a total cache of up to 144MB, which is achieved through 3D V-cache enhanced CCDs (Core Chiplet Dies). The breakdown of the cache is as follows: it includes 64MB from Zen 5 CCDs and an additional 76GB from X3D. Additionally, there’s a 16MB L2 cache to bring the total up to 144MB. Despite its extensive features, the CPU has a power consumption of 170W.
The 9900X3D CPU boasts nearly comparable power, but with slightly reduced output. This processor features 12 cores, 24 threads, and sports a total cache size of 140MB, capable of reaching up to 5.5GHz at maximum clock speed. It’s equipped with a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 140W.

In terms of overall performance, AMD claims that the new graphics cards are approximately 8% faster than the Ryzen 9 7950X3D on average. However, some games such as Black Myth Wukong experienced a minimal 1% improvement. Conversely, titles like Counter-Strike 2 demonstrated a significant boost of around 58%.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed a significant boost when pitting my AMD Ryzen 9950X3D against Intel’s latest Core Ultra 285K CPU, particularly at 1080p resolution on high settings. I’m talking about an average performance increase of 20%, but it jumps to over 40% faster for games like Final Fantasy 14, FarCry 6, and Watch Dogs: Legion. Even in Black Myth Wukong, the performance was comparable, while Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora showed a slight edge in performance.
The two upcoming CPUs are set to debut in March, with specific details about their release date and final cost being disclosed within the next few weeks.
