AMD Announces Ryzen 9000HX CPUs For Laptops

AMD has unveiled its fresh lineup of Ryzen 9000HX CPUs specifically designed for laptops. These new “Fire Range” processors were presented during AMD’s keynote speech at CES 2025, and will initially be introduced with three models. You can expect to purchase these CPUs in the first half of 2025.

As a gamer, I’m excited to get my hands on these brand new CPUs that are going to be incorporated into top-tier partner laptops. These bad boys promise faster gaming and content creation experiences for all us consumers. They’re stepping in to take the place of the Dragon Range Ryzen 7000HX CPUs, so expect some serious performance upgrades!

Three Ryzen processors were unveiled: the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, Ryzen 9 9955HX, and Ryzen 9 9850HX. The Ryzen 9 9955HX models boast 16 cores and 32 threads, as well as a maximum boost clock of 5.4 GHz. The primary distinction between the standard 9955HX and the 9955HX3D lies in their cache memory, with the latter offering 144MB compared to the former’s 80MB. The Ryzen 9 9850HX comes equipped with 12 cores, 24 threads, a 5.2 GHz maximum clock speed, and a 76MB cache.

Among the major shifts across all the unveiled CPUs, there’s a significant reduction in Thermal Design Power (TDP). Instead of the 75W TDP of the previous generation chips, the new ones only consume 54W, marking a substantial decrease in power consumption.

CPU Cores / Threads Boost Clock Cache TDP
Ryzen 9 9955HX3D 16 / 32 5.4 GHz 144 MB 54W
Ryzen 9 9955HX 16 / 32 5.4 GHz 80 MB 54W
Ryzen 9 9850HX 12 / 24 5.2 GHz 76 MB 54W
