Despite limited information about AMD’s upcoming RX 9070 XT GPU following CES 2025, a recent leak by Twitter user ‘Tomasz Gawroński’ hints that its latest GPU could potentially be an outstanding value for price-to-performance on the market. Preliminary testing suggests there’s ample room for enthusiasts to overclock this new GPU, based on recent Linux tests.
Although Nvidia’s Blackwell-based RTX 50 series GPUs are hard to find, particularly at their suggested retail prices, consumers have also faced a delay in the release of AMD’s RX 9070 XT GPU. Initially anticipated for a February 2025 launch by retailers, it has now been pushed back to March, but with a competitive price tag of $750. This positions it as a rival to Nvidia’s current RTX 5070 Ti GPU.
Due to a scarcity of top-tier GPUs combined with increased demand, we currently find ourselves in a scenario favoring sellers, particularly scalpers and system builders. The upcoming launch of the AMD RX 9070 XT may slightly alleviate this situation, providing some relief.
AMD’s RX 9070 XT GPU: Limited Details On Offer
Even though AMD has provided some details about the 9070 XT GPU, there’s still not much information available. We do know that it features the Navi 48XT core built on AMD’s latest RDNA 4 architecture, capable of boosting to almost 3GHz (specifically, 2970 MHz). It also comes with 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM and 64 RT cores. These cores are anticipated to benefit from AMD’s upcoming FSR4 upscaling solutions, making it a strong candidate in the gaming market from 2025 onwards for Team Red.
In the year 2025, it seems the AMD RX 9070 XT could be a top contender for the best budget-friendly GPUs under $1000. However, we’re yet to have concrete performance figures compared to the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 Nvidia cards. As the rumored release date of March 6th approaches, I eagerly await to see how this new AMD powerhouse will measure up against its competition.
GIGABYTE’s RX 9070 XT Gaming OC Performance Leaks: What Does It Tell Us About AMD’s Latest GPU?
According to tweet by Tomasz Gawroński (x.com/gawroskiT), the Gigabyte 9070 XT Gaming OC GPU appears capable of reaching up to 3250MHz (or 3.25GHz) when tested using Uniengine’s Heaven benchmark, without showing any signs of strain or overheating.
The image you see above is a leaked snapshot of the GIGABYTE RX 9070 XT Gaming OC, operating at 3244MHz while using 329W power and registering a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius on Linux. This suggests that AMD’s RDNA 4 GPU might be capable of impressive boost clock speeds when partnered with premium cooling solutions from high-end AIB (Add-in Board) manufacturers.
The screenshots appear to originate from a Linux system rather than Windows, however, there could be a valid explanation for this: AMD has already distributed RDNA 4 drivers specifically for Linux systems, enabling the GPU to operate on Linux instead of Windows, unless one is using AMD’s most recent (yet-to-be-released) drivers for Windows.
According to AMD’s own specifications, the clock speed is less than the displayed figure (2970MHz), but third-party graphics card manufacturers have demonstrated the ability to push beyond this, reaching up to 3.1GHz based on leaked specifications from Amazon.
The leak suggests that users might be capable of maximizing AMD’s 9070 XT GPU performance beyond initial expectations, potentially intensifying competition within the $600-$800 price range. Notably, Nvidia is said to have delayed the release of its RTX 5070 to align with AMD’s upcoming launch, scheduled for next month.
