The debut of the latest Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card hasn’t gone as planned. Due to scarcity and consumer claims of a phantom launch, those who managed to secure one of these $2,000 GPUs haven’t been left unscathed by problems.
Over the past week, I’ve noticed an uptick in discussions across online forums and subreddits about my beloved GPUs – specifically the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 and the RTX 5090D with a Chinese-specific focus. These conversations revolve around allegations that these graphics cards have been failing or “bricking,” meaning they’re no longer detected by the systems they’re supposed to power.
Intriguingly, the common thread among these reports is that users are unable to get their cards recognized by their systems. Some have attempted resetting the CMOS, while others have reinstalled the drivers for the GPUs. Regrettably, none of these attempts seem to have resolved the issue.

The reports began to get so frequent that Nvidia had to issue a statement on the matter.
“We are investigation the reported issues with the RTX 50 series,” the company told PC Gamer.
Nvidia has admitted that there’s a problem, though they haven’t specified the exact cause yet. More details might surface once they provide a solution or address the concerns of those affected.
