An Update On Black Myth: Wukong’s Xbox Release

As a die-hard Xbox gamer with years of nostalgia embedded deep within my console’s circuitry, it’s hard not to feel a twinge of disappointment when another highly anticipated game like Black Myth: Wukong skips over us like a pebble on water. I remember the days when Xbox was the go-to for exclusive titles that set the gaming world alight – but those seem to be fading into the mist of time.

Despite Black Myth: Wukong being among this year’s most successful video games, setting records and climbing player rankings on PlayStation 5 and PC, Xbox owners have unfortunately not had the chance to enjoy it yet due to its current unavailability on their platform, with many expressing enthusiasm in anticipation of future access.

Indeed, players with a PC, PlayStation 5, or any other compatible system can enjoy the game, but unfortunately, those who own only an Xbox Series X or S are left waiting as the game has yet to be released for their platform. What’s the hold-up, you might ask?

The Latest On Black Myth: Wukong On Xbox

Initially, the release of the game was planned for both consoles and PC along with PlayStation. However, in June, it was announced that the game wouldn’t be available simultaneously. Later in the same month, Xbox shared a statement about the game’s delay on their console, expressing their anticipation for the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and confirming their ongoing collaboration with Game Science to bring the game to Xbox platforms.

And now that the game is out, there’s a bit of an update as to what’s going on.

According to Forbes’ Paul Tassi, the absence of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox isn’t due to Sony securing an exclusive deal with the game’s developer, Game Science. Instead, it appears that Microsoft’s own consoles and their policies are causing the issues.

As someone who has been following the gaming industry for over two decades, I must say it feels like déjà vu when I hear about another Xbox misstep, this time involving Baldur’s Gate 3. It seems like history is repeating itself, with Microsoft once again finding themselves in a precarious situation. The disappointment and frustration among fans are palpable, as we remember the delays and mishaps that plagued earlier releases on their platforms. I can only hope that this time they learn from past mistakes and deliver a game worthy of the Baldur’s Gate name to their eagerly awaiting audience.

According to Tassi, the game didn’t debut on Xbox because of a technical problem that apparently affects its performance on the Xbox Series S more than expected. Although the exact issue wasn’t detailed in the report, it appears as though the game isn’t functioning optimally on the Xbox Series S, which seems to contradict Microsoft’s policy of launching games on both the Xbox Series X and S since the console’s debut. This policy has faced another setback as a result.

TopMob recently contacted Microsoft regarding this assertion, yet they merely forwarded the identical message that was previously sent to Tassi. Here’s the complete statement from June: [Paste the statement here]

“We’re thrilled about the upcoming release of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S, and in collaboration with Game Science, we aim to bring this game to our gaming systems. Regarding agreements between our partners and other platform providers, we prefer not to discuss those matters publicly. However, our commitment is to make Xbox a top choice for gamers, and delivering exceptional games lies at the heart of that mission.”
