- A newly emerged report from an industry analyst suggests that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released in Q2 2025.
- The same forecast estimates the console to debut below $500.
As a seasoned gamer with over three decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and skepticism upon hearing the latest news about the Nintendo Switch 2. The rumored Q2 2025 release window and sub-$500 price point sound promising, especially considering the current market trends. However, as someone who’s witnessed the unpredictable nature of console launches (remember the PlayStation Vita and Dreamcast?), I won’t be holding my breath just yet.
According to recent insights from industry experts, it’s expected that the Nintendo Switch 2 will hit the shelves with a price tag under $500. Additionally, this expert analysis provides an estimated timeline for the launch of Nintendo’s eagerly awaited console.
According to previous confirmations from Nintendo, we can expect an announcement about the Switch 2 before March 31, 2025, which marks the end of their current fiscal year. However, they have yet to disclose the exact timeline for its release.
Report Suggests Nintendo Switch 2 Is Releasing in Q2 2025
Based on a recent analysis by Hideki Yasuda from Toyo Securities, it appears that Nintendo’s upcoming Switch successor might become available for purchase as early as the first half of 2025. This prediction was made public just a few days after Christopher Dring of GameIndustry.biz reported that Nintendo’s partners do not anticipate the release of the Switch 2 to occur before the company’s next fiscal year. These pieces of information suggest that the highly anticipated device could make its market debut in the second quarter of 2025.
Nintendo Switch 2 Estimated to Debut Below $500
According to Yasuda’s recent perspective, an analyst anticipates that Nintendo’s upcoming console might debut at less than $499. This is considered a relatively modest guess considering that the PS5 and Xbox Series S currently retail at $449 and $299 each. Consequently, it appears unlikely that Nintendo’s next console will be much more expensive. In fact, another analyst predicted back in January 2024 that the Switch 2 would cost around $400.
Initially, the Nintendo Switch was launched at a price of $299, and it hasn’t changed since its debut over seven years ago. The Wii U also started at the same price in 2012. However, considering the significant inflation rates during the early post-pandemic period, it seems unlikely that Nintendo will release another console priced at $299. One reason for this is that inflation has been a factor in Nintendo’s reluctance to lower the Switch’s price despite its long tenure on the market.
In light of past experiences, ensuring a smooth launch for Switch 2 in 2025 without stock shortages will be a top priority for Nintendo. To achieve this, they might need to produce a substantial amount of units ahead of time. This process may not begin until after the console has been officially announced, as revealing it earlier could lead to factory leaks that might spoil the reveal. Given that the original Switch was mass-produced about four months before its March 2017 launch, which was marked by shortages and scalpers, the new model might require an even longer pre-production phase. This assumption is based on the premise that Nintendo hasn’t significantly improved its production capabilities since 2017, but there’s no solid evidence to support this.
