As such, it’s only fitting to highlight some of the most influential and courageous rebels featured in Andor.
Bravery manifests in various ways, as the Rebellion confronts the Empire from multiple angles. Strategies such as disseminating information, defending the front lines, and espionage are all crucial tools in this battle. With Andor highlighting numerous rebels, it’s now essential to recognize those who bravely challenged the Empire.

8. Bix Caleen
A Woman On the Run and Devoted to Rebellion

Bix Caleen is a deeply complex individual, who has endured immense hardship at the hands of the Empire. The ISB inflicted torture upon her, and they cruelly took away her friends, her life as she knew it. Despite this, Bix found solace in Cassian, with whom she shared a deep love. Bix was fiercely devoted to him and their shared cause of resisting the Empire. However, over time, Cassian recognized the heavy toll these struggles were taking on Bix.
In a remarkable display of courage, Bix made the difficult decision to part ways with Cassian, understanding that by doing so, he would have to remain with the Rebel Alliance, working towards a better future – a future that, for now, they couldn’t share. Instead of abandoning Cassian, she showed him the strength in their cause and sacrificed her own happiness to bring up their child.
7. Mon Mothma
A Senator Who Relinquishes Luxury to Rebel
- Played by: Genevieve O’Reilly
Mon Mothma may not fit the stereotype of a Rebel, wielding a blaster, but she is an extraordinary individual who has tirelessly fought against Emperor Palpatine and the Empire. As a respected Senator, Mon Mothma had the unique opportunity to challenge the Empire, expose its deceit, and reveal its cruelty, which she did consistently until the day her arrest warrant arrived.
As a film enthusiast putting it in my own words, I’d say: In the grand scheme of things, without Mon Mothma, the Rebel Alliance might have lost its fighting spirit and financial backing. She’s an indispensable figure, demonstrating that rebels can come in all forms – some need not be cold-hearted killers to stand up against tyranny. Instead, they can wield truth, eloquent words, and a beacon of hope as their weapons.
6. Vel Sartha
One of Luthen’s Most Trusted Spies
- Played by: Faye Marsay
Vel Sartha courageously stands up as a rebel, putting everything on the line. Her connection to Senator Mon Mothma, a vocal critic of the Empire, makes her capture even more likely due to her family ties. In spite of the peril associated with her rebellion, she remains resolute and unwilling to capitulate or succumb to life under the Empire’s oppressive regulations. Instead, Vel chooses to wage war, sabotaging imperial finances, and fighting for her beliefs – including love.
Vel draws strength and optimism from her love for Cinta Kaz, which fuels her determination to persevere. As a devoted rebel soldier, she’s adept at orchestrating missions, even if it means exposing herself to danger on the front lines instead of relying solely on communication and strategic plans.
5. Wilmon Paak
An Incredible Mechanic Who Puts Love Before Himself
- Played by: Muhannad Bhaier
Initially, Wilmon Paak functioned as a defiant outlaw, harnessing his knowledge and resources to craft explosives aimed at dismantling the Empire’s advancement on Ferrix, his home planet. The more he saw of the Empire’s actions, the stronger his animosity grew. Eventually, he found the resolve to stand up against them, joining forces with the citizens of Ferrix in their struggle. As time passed, Wilmon became deeply committed to their rebellion movement, dedicating his life to its success.
Regarding Wilmon, whether it was aiding Saw Gerrera or nurturing the great aspirations and optimism within the Rebel Alliance, he would continue to battle with ingenuity and blaster fire, driven by love and the rebellion’s cause. This determination led to his injury in Ghorman during an attempt to locate and rescue his girlfriend. Although Wilmon’s leg never fully healed, his indomitable spirit remains unbroken.
4. Luthen Rael
A Man Who Burns His Decency For a Future He Will Never See
- Played by: Stellan Skarsgard
Luthen Rael might not have any official title or recognition within the Rebel Alliance, but he’s widely regarded as the instigator of this long-standing rebellion. His actions, spanning decades, range from disrupting Imperial operations on Naboo to challenging Emperor Palpatine, and educating a broad network of spies across the galaxy in the art of rebellion and covert operation. Luthen Rael is admired for his courage, with friends scattered throughout the galaxy.
As a cinephile, I can’t help but admire Luthen Rael for his unwavering courage. Unlike others who might fear danger, he doesn’t shy away from it. Even when cornered, his instinct isn’t to flee and bring down as many Imperials with him. Instead, he chooses a path less traveled – sacrificing himself to protect the mysteries he guards. His daily bravery in carrying out his covert operations, coupled with his willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice for the Rebellion, highlights his unyielding fortitude. He stands tall among the bravest of rebels.
3. Kleya Marki
Luthen’s Loyal Daughter Who Will Stop At Nothing to Rebel
- Played by: Elizabeth Dulau
Kleya Marki was rescued and nurtured by Luthen, learning all about resisting the tyrannical Galactic Empire from him. Given this background, it’s not surprising that she shows great courage when confronted with danger, even though she lived a life of opulence on Coruscant as his personal assistant. Kleya is deeply committed to the rebellion and has been working alongside Luthen since her childhood, being one of the founding members.
Kleya’s background as a soldier under Luthen positions her ideally for the role, hence she tirelessly attempts to reach field agents from Coruscant, potentially jeopardizing her own safety every time. Kleya demonstrated immense courage when she secretly infiltrated an Imperial hospital to carry out her father-figure’s last wish by taking his life, a task fraught with adversity.
2. Cassian Andor
A Rebel Who Gives His Life for the Cause

1. Cassian Andor started out as an insignificant figure, but his decade-long struggle against the Empire has solidified his pivotal role as a captain in the Rebel Alliance. Cassian Andor was prepared to give up his life for the Rebel cause, even if it meant never seeing Bix again. He understood that this fight was crucial for altering the world’s course. Whenever duty called for him to defy orders from above or stand up against others, Cassian knew when to engage in battle and when to retreat.
2. Despite being a nobody initially, Cassian Andor has demonstrated his essential position within the Rebel Alliance after battling the Empire for 10 years. His unwavering dedication to the Rebel cause was such that he would have sacrificed his life if necessary, even at the cost of never seeing Bix again. He recognized the importance of this fight in shaping the world’s destiny. Whether it meant disregarding orders from higher-ups to prioritize what he deemed crucial or confronting others to do the same, Cassian had a keen sense of when to engage and when to withdraw.
3. Originally an obscure figure, Cassian Andor has shown his significance within the Rebel Alliance following 10 years of confronting the Empire. Saw Gerrera serves as a thorn in the side of the Rebel Alliance, yet they cannot do without him. His methods are ruthless, harsh, and incredibly risky. The rebellion that Saw champions is disruptive and aggressive, tarnishing the Rebel Alliance’s reputation, but this doesn’t trouble him at all. As long as he can inflict a defeat on the Empire, regardless of who might get hurt in the process, he remains content.
Saw Gerrera is an unyielding zealot, relentlessly pursuing any opportunity to inflict a defeat upon the Empire, regardless of its triviality or brutality. His harsh strategies and impassioned addresses to his dedicated followers demonstrate that he operates independently of the Rebel Alliance, relying instead on his fervor for revolution to sustain his influence.
