Warning: Plot details for Andor Season 1 & Season 2 may contain spoilers!
Andor, one of the most compelling Star Wars shows on Disney Plus, delves into the raw realities of rebellion against the Empire. It’s a must-watch, packed with bravery and high stakes, but it doesn’t flinch from sacrifice and sadness as it weaves a story that honors its characters’ sacrifices.
As Andor reaches its conclusion, let’s remember the characters who didn’t make it through this Star Wars adventure. From heroes to villains, many lives were lost – some sacrificed tragically while others gave their all for a future free from Imperial rule.
Final spoiler warning for both seasons of Andor!
8. Lonni Jung
The Man Who Fed the Rebel Alliance Information, Killed to Hide it All
- Played by: Robert Emms
- Died in: Season 2, Episode 10 “Make It Stop”
Lieutenant Supervisor Lonni Jung served within the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) of the Galactic Empire, appearing loyal to his colleagues. In truth, however, he was secretly working for Luthen Rael as a spy, playing a crucial role in the Rebel Alliance, unbeknownst to him of his significance. Lonni Jung made tremendous sacrifices for the Rebel cause, sharing valuable intel and risking not only his life but also the lives of his spouse and child.
If not for Lonni, the Rebel Alliance might have remained unaware of Galen Erso and the Death Star until it was too late to prevent its destruction. However, Lonni’s reward from Luthen was a swift death, supposedly to avoid any potential leaks that could lead back to him. Sadly, Lonni met his end on a bench in Coruscant, branded as a traitor by the Empire, and his sacrifices were not adequately recognized.
7. Karis Nemik
A Freedom Fighter Whose Death Echoed with His Manifesto

- Played by: Alex Lawther
- Died in: Season 1, Episode 6 “The Eye”
Karis Nemik lacked the typical traits of a freedom fighter, yet he demonstrated incredible courage by attempting such an action. In a galaxy distant and vast, Karis Nemik was a gifted author whose manifesto stirred rebellion against the Empire, but sadly, due to the wounds sustained during a mission to seize the Galactic Empire’s payroll, his words never reached the masses.
During the mission, Nemik sustained fatal injuries when a massive box filled with credits collapsed on him during the hasty retreat. Despite hanging on long enough to show Cassian Andor his manifesto, he ultimately succumbed to his wounds. The protracted nature of Nemik’s death and the way it galvanized him into a symbol of martyrdom played a pivotal role in the early stages of the Rebel Alliance.
6. Syril Karn
A Loyal Inspector of the Empire, Betrayed and Forgotten

- Played by: Kyle Soller
- Died in: Season 2, Episode 8 “Who Are You?”
Among the captivating figures in the series “Andor,” Syril Karn stands out as one of the most intriguing. His character is shaped by a multifaceted bond with his mother, coupled with aspirations to climb the hierarchies within the Galactic Empire. Despite appearing haughty and overly meticulous, Syril harbors a deep concern for those who are innocent and virtuous. Ultimately, he yearns to uphold the law and encourage others to do the same.
There’s some disagreement about it, but it seems that Syril was not guilty. Syril was a man who simply aimed to carry out his duties and continue serving the Empire. However, Syril’s life took an unexpected turn when his girlfriend exposed a staged protest on Ghorm as a plot to slaughter its people. With no connection to genocide, Syril escaped to join the Ghorman populace, but found himself battling Cassian, the one who initiated all this long ago. Despite being prepared to kill on Andor, Syril was fatally shot in the head by Carro Rylanz, becoming a forgotten casualty of the Ghorman Massacre.
5. Kino Loy
A Man Who Helped the Prisoners of the Empire Escape, Only to Drown in Victory

- Played by: Andy Serkis
- Died in: Season 1, Episode 10 “One Way Out” (debatable)
Kino Loy appeared tough and dedicated as a prison manager in the Galactic Empire’s labor camp, meticulously constructing peculiar devices without understanding their purpose. Despite his role, Kino’s fervor hinted at an eagerness to leave this penal institution. However, when he learned that his sentence was for life, Kino became instrumental in orchestrating a rebellion against the prison system, aiming to liberate both the prisoners and himself from confinement.
Kino Loy’s moving speech culminates in a poignant moment as they find their only path to freedom. However, the joy of liberation is overshadowed by sorrow when it becomes clear that Kino Loy cannot swim. As countless prisoners dive into the waters below in search of freedom, Kino reveals his inability to swim to Cassian. The crowd surges forward, separating them before they can react. Though there’s a slim chance someone might have helped him reach safety, it’s only a small flicker compared to the possibility of what truly happened – that he may have drowned during their escape.
4. Maarva Carassi Andor
Declining Health Takes Maarva’s Life, But Her Legacy Remains Triumphant

- Played by: Fiona Shaw
- Died in: Season 1, Episode 8 “Narkin 5”
Maarva witnessed the decline and fall of the Galactic Republic, which left her with a lingering distaste for the Empire. As she aged and her health declined, she became increasingly pessimistic about the future of the galaxy and hoped for better times ahead for future generations. Her love for Andor was profound, but his rebellious spirit worried her, especially as her own health weakened.
On Ferrix, where she was greatly admired, it’s not surprising that her passing would be shocking and deeply felt. Though her deteriorating health contributed to her demise, the knowledge that she was gone left a profound hurt on those who knew her. Consequently, the inspiring eulogy she pre-recorded for her funeral served as a catalyst for the people of Ferrix, sparking the rebellion they needed against the Empire in an emotional display of resistance from beyond the grave.
3. Brasso
Cassian’s Closest Friend, Killed for Defying the Empire

- Played by: Joplin Sibtain
- Died in: Season 2, Episode 3 “Harvest”
Brasso stands fiercely by Cassian Andor’s side, demonstrating unwavering loyalty. He is a man whose word can be relied upon and who does not hesitate to put himself in harm’s way for those he cares about. Their friendship with Cassian has been filled with danger, from battling the Empire on Ferrix to shielding Bix on Mina-Rau. Brasso consistently contributes to Cassian’s missions while also working covertly to fuel the rebellion.
Brasso, unfortunately, doesn’t get to appreciate the splendor of Yavin-4, as he meets an untimely end in Season 2. Discovered by Stormtroopers on Mina-Rau, he attempted to escape but was ultimately shot and killed. In a selfless act, Brasso falsified Kallen’s loyalty to the Empire before his death, thus protecting Kallen from harm even as he faced his own demise. Brasso’s final actions demonstrate his deep concern for others, even in the face of death.
2. Cinta Kaz
A Loyal Rebel, Taken by a Rogue Blaster Shot

- Played by: Varada Sethu
- Died in: Season 2, Episode 6 “What A Festive Evening”
Kaz Cinta was a valued yet undervalued member of the Rebel Alliance, frequently collaborating with Luthen Rael in their mission to hinder Imperial operations across the galaxy. From missions that drained funds from the Imperial treasury to outwitting the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB), Kaz played a crucial role on Luthen’s team, and her skills were evident for all to see – which is why her untimely demise feels so tragically unjust.
Following their long-awaited reunion, Vel Sartha and her partner embarked on what they envisioned as just one of many future missions together. Sadly, their mission on Ghorm was cut short when Kaz was hit by an unintended blaster bolt from a comrade, causing her immediate demise. The tragic reality of war left Vel unable to come to terms with Kaz’s injury or bid farewell to the woman she cherished deeply.
1. Luthen Rael
The Most Important Figure in the Rebellion Gives His Life for the Cause

- Played by: Stellan Skarsgard
- Died in: Season 2, Episode 10 “Make It Stop”
Among all individuals, none has contributed as much as Luthen Rael to the uprising. Dedicating his entire existence to a belief, Luthen was well aware that he would never witness the fall of the Galactic Empire. Unyielding in his methods, Luthen was a relentless assassin who refused to compromise. If necessary, he would take a life without hesitation. This tenacious man tirelessly worked to secure resources for the Rebellion and appeared to have connections throughout the Empire’s political and institutional landscapes.
Despite not getting the ending fitting for him, Luthen meets his end at the hands of the ISB. Given their history of brutal interrogation techniques and recognizing his inestimable worth, Luthen chooses to end his life himself. Luthen, a character whose devotion to the cause was unwavering, willingly sacrificed himself to increase the Rebel Alliance’s chances of survival, knowing he wouldn’t witness its triumph.
