Fans have been waiting a long time, but Animal Crossing: New Horizons is finally getting a big update – version 3.0 – which is launching at the same time as an upgraded version of the game for the Nintendo Switch.
On January 15th, Animal Crossing: New Horizons received a major update – version 3.0 – adding fresh content and new villagers to the popular game. This update arrives six years after the game’s initial release and four years after the 2.0 update.

All New Content in Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 Update
New & Returning Villagers
The 3.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons will add four new villagers, but you’ll need to use Amiibo cards to invite them to live on your island.
Mineru and Tulin are new villagers you can get by using Legends of Zelda Amiibo figures. Cece and Viche are returning favorites, unlocked by scanning Splatoon Amiibo figures.
You can’t invite the four new villagers added in the New Horizons 3.0 update to your island unless you use Amiibo cards.
Quality-of-Life Improvements
The 3.0 update includes several helpful changes. You’ll now have more storage space – up to 9,000 units – and you can even decorate your storage areas with trees, bushes, and flowers.
Now you can choose how many of an item you want to craft all at once, instead of making them one by one. Plus, the game will automatically gather the necessary materials from your storage, so you don’t need to carry them around with you anymore.
When reshaping the land, it’s now simpler to create or delete features like fences, paths, cliffs, and rivers. Changes to movement allow you to build or remove these along a single line, moving quickly and directly.
Resort Hotel
The biggest new feature in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 update is the Resort Hotel. Players can design rooms for visiting guests based on themes they’re given. Tourists will explore your island, and you can even invite specific villagers using Amiibo cards or figures.
By finishing guest requests, you get Hotel Tickets. You can use these tickets to get items at Grams’ souvenir shop. You also earn tickets by making DIY items, which helps improve the hotel’s reputation around the world.
The hotel lobby also features two mannequins guests can dress up with outfits. Both people and pets are welcome to borrow these outfits for fun photos!
Reset Service
The 3.0 update introduces Reset Service on Mr. Resetti’s island, letting players quickly clear out parts of their island. You can then choose to either discard any items found there, or save them for later.
The Reset Service lets you easily remove flowers and custom designs, which is great if you want to completely change the look of your island.
Slumber Islands
Players can now access Slumber Islands, a new dream world where they can build up to three islands each. These islands come in different sizes – small, medium, and large – and each one has a randomly generated layout.
Players can completely customize their islands by building and decorating them with items they’ve collected. They can also control the time of day and weather. Lloid can quickly build bridges and slopes whenever needed.

Collaborations
The New Horizons 3.0 update introduces several new partnerships, adding a wide variety of items, decorations, and unique furniture to the game.
Grams’ shop now offers unique furniture inspired by classic Nintendo consoles and retro toys, reflecting the Hotel’s growing popularity. If you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, you can play games on these consoles, including titles like Clu Clu Land, Ice Climber, Dr. Mario, Panel de Pon, and F-Zero.
Nook Shopping now features furniture inspired by LEGO, which you can buy as soon as it’s in stock. Plus, if you scan compatible Amiibo figures, you can unlock special items from The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon.
