Naruto is easily one of the most beloved anime series worldwide. Starting in 2002, it quickly became a huge global franchise thanks to its fantastic characters and compelling storyline. Even though the anime concluded in 2017, it remains incredibly popular and is still frequently discussed and compared to other shows.
I absolutely love Naruto, but it’s awesome to remember there are so many other incredible anime out there! It’s amazing how many titles have achieved that same legendary status with fans. So, I wanted to share a few anime that are just as highly regarded as Naruto – true classics!
This post contains spoilers for several anime.
One Piece
MyAnimeList Rating: 8.73
Over the past few decades, few anime series have achieved the same level of popularity as One Piece. First airing in 1999, it has produced over 1100 episodes and become a worldwide success, partnering with many other well-known brands. Its recent live-action adaptation is a testament to just how famous One Piece has become.
One Piece centers around Monkey D. Luffy, a determined adventurer who sets out to become the Pirate King. Along the way, he gathers a crew and together they journey to various islands, overcoming strong opponents as they go.
Bleach
MyAnimeList Rating: 8.99
Along with One Piece and Naruto, Bleach is considered one of the three most popular anime and manga series. Based on Tite Kubo’s original manga, Bleach has a dedicated fanbase who remained hopeful even after the anime concluded in 2012. Their patience paid off in 2022 when Bleach returned with the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, successfully reviving the series’ popularity.
Bleach follows Ichigo Kurosaki, a teenager who unexpectedly becomes a Soul Reaper. Because he’s new to this role, Ichigo needs extensive training to battle powerful enemies known as Hollows. As the series unfolds, Ichigo grows stronger and encounters increasingly challenging foes, leading to thrilling action sequences. This combination of character development and intense fights makes Bleach a captivating story.
My Hero Academia
MyAnimeList Rating: 8.78
The final season of My Hero Academia wrapped up in 2025 to overwhelmingly positive reviews. Every episode received a remarkably high rating of 9 or higher. While season 8 marked the end of the main story, fans can look forward to one final episode in 2026. This special will show what happens after the climactic events and provide updates on all the main characters.
My Hero Academia tells the story of Izuku Midoriya, a boy who desperately wants to become a professional hero like his idol, All Might. Unfortunately, Izuku is born without any superpowers, leaving him unable to fight villains. But he refuses to abandon his dream, and a surprising turn of events gives him a powerful ability that could change everything.
Jujutsu Kaisen
MyAnimeList Rating: 8.72
Jujutsu Kaisen currently has two seasons, with a third one planned. Despite not having a huge number of episodes yet, it’s become a very popular and well-known anime. Millions of fans love the series and eagerly await new releases, and that enthusiasm extends to the manga, which has sold over 100 million copies. When Season 3 is released, the series is expected to become even more popular.
Jujutsu Kaisen takes place in a world plagued by curses that harm humanity. People with the ability to harness curse energy fight back against these threats. The story focuses on Yuji Itadori, a high school student who swallows a powerful cursed object, risking the safety of everyone. This forces the powerful Gojo Satoru to intervene and take control of the situation.
Dragon Ball
MyAnimeList Rating: 7.98
Watching anime today, it’s clear Dragon Ball really changed everything. It wasn’t the first, of course, but it definitely opened the door for a lot of the action-packed ‘shonen’ shows we see now. It all started with Akira Toriyama’s manga, which is incredibly popular – one of the best-selling comics ever, actually. While the story itself might not be the most complex, you have to respect Dragon Ball for how much it influenced the entire anime world.
Dragon Ball follows Son Goku, a powerful alien who lands on Earth. He’s often a bit clueless, which gets him into tricky situations, but he’s incredibly strong and always manages to overcome them. The series mainly focuses on Goku’s adventures as he trains, battles, and travels the world.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
MyAnimeList Rating: 8.07
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure isn’t one continuous story, but a series of parts, each with its own hero and villain. This format has led to a huge and memorable cast of characters, many of whom are now famous worldwide.
As mentioned before, the anime has several seasons, so this list focuses on the most recent one, Stone Ocean, to avoid confusion. The story centers around Jolyne Cujoh, who is imprisoned after a strange incident. She later discovers this was all part of a larger, sinister plot.
