Anna Kendrick Ready to Return for The Accountant 3!

Summary

  • Anna Kendrick is interested in returning for a third film in the Accountant franchise.
  • Bringing Kendrick back for closure would tie up the trilogy perfectly.
  • Production challenges could hinder the third Accountant movie’s development.

Reach out to Warner Bros. and Amazon-MGM, as Anna Kendrick is prepared to reprise her role for a third film in one of her most successful franchise series. Interestingly, not appearing in the initial sequel doesn’t necessarily mean she has finished with this series altogether.

In 2016, Warner Bros. released the film “The Accountant” globally, and it turned out to be a profitable venture for them despite its moderate budget of $44 million. The movie went on to earn over $150 million worldwide and was also successful in the home video market. Given its success, it was only natural that director Gavin O’Connor and star Ben Affleck would return for more. Although Amazon-MGM acquired the distribution rights for the “Accountant” film series from Warner Bros. Pictures in 2024, Warner Bros. continues to be involved as the franchise’s international distributor. While it is unclear if Academy Award-nominated actress Anna Kendrick will appear in “The Accountant 2,” news that she may be interested in a third film has certainly caught Amazon-MGM’s attention.

In an interview with The New York Times about The Accountant 2, director Gavin O’Connor hinted at Anna Kendrick’s potential return for a third movie in the series. According to O’Connor, he and Kendrick have been exchanging texts. He stated, “She said she’s a hundred percent in, if we want.” The director further added that having Kendrick rejoin the cast would offer Christian Wolff, portrayed by Affleck, “the love he deserves.

“We’re hoping she still likes us.”

Bringing Anna Kendrick Back For A Third Accountant Movie Would Provide A Third Film With The Kind Of Closure It Needs

In “The Accountant 2,” the story mainly revolves around Christian Wolff (played by Ben Affleck) and his brother Braxton (portrayed by Jon Bernthal). If it turns out that Dana Cummings, played by Anna Kendrick, makes a comeback in the third installment, it would complete the circle for the trilogy. If this happens, Christian’s character will have transitioned from a man who severed all emotional ties in the first film, to learning to be more open in the second, and ultimately finding love in the concluding chapter. It seems almost too logical to happen, but who knows?

Kendrick has had her share of sequels in her acting career. She appeared in multiple Twilight movies, was the lead in the Pitch Perfect series, and is featured in Another Simple Favor this week. Affleck and Bernthal aren’t opposed to serialized storytelling given their roles as Batman and the Punisher respectively, but fans can only keep their fingers crossed that everything falls into place and propels this third installment into active production.

Even though O’Connor, Affleck, Bernthal, and Kendrick eagerly anticipate a third film, their wishes may not come true if the challenges of production (often referred to as ‘production hell’) surface. Just consider Marvel Studios’ ongoing difficulties in launching a new Blade movie, despite all the necessary pieces seemingly being in place, for an example of how difficult it can be to bring an action movie to life in Hollywood.

The Accountant 2 is currently showing in theatres worldwide.
