Another Crab’s Treasure: 10 Hardest Bosses, Ranked

At first glance, the 2024 indie hit Another Crab’s Treasure by Aggro Crab appears to be a fun, laughter-filled journey through the ocean. Players take on the role of Kril, a hermit crab who has lost his home, as he embarks on a mission to retrieve his shell that was seized due to a supposed tax penalty.

The 2024 indie game Another Crab’s Treasure by Aggro Crab is a light-hearted, amusing adventure in the ocean. Players play as Kril, a hermit crab who needs to get his shell back because it was taken away due to some tax issue.

Although Another Crab’s Treasure doesn’t appear to directly compete with Souls-like games in terms of fierce combat, it skillfully combines the ambiance and comedy reminiscent of SpongeBob SquarePants. It relentlessly wears down every defensive shell Kril employs during gameplay.

Among the top Souls-like games of 2024, Another Crab’s Treasure truly stands out, and this is particularly evident in the difficulty of its 18 primary boss battles.

Of course, not all of them will be equally challenging, but here are the top 10 potentially dangerous predators that might encounter on your adventure through The Sands Between.

Note that some of these details may reveal key plot points for certain end-game bosses in the game’s narrative. Proceed with caution if you wish to avoid such spoilers.

10. Inkerton

Crab Hunter

Hit Points 7,000
Location The Unfathom

With the third-largest reserve of HP among all characters in the game, Inkerton the Crab Hunter is no laughing matter. Initially encountered as a surprise combat early on, his real challenge arises later in the game, following Kril’s journey through The Unfathom, marking his second and most significant encounter.

Equipped with a lobster pick for close combat and a confetti launcher for long-range attacks, Inkerton can retaliate from any corner of his battlefield, much like engaging with a formidable hunter in Bloodborne. This unique weapon set, combined with his overall design, fosters the sensation of confronting another skilled combatant.

At this point in the game, Kril ought to have sufficient power and advancement to capture Inkerton fairly easily. Nonetheless, it’s a noteworthy and fashionable battle, offering enough Health Points for a significant reduction, making it worthy of inclusion on the list.

Though he may not be among the toughest enemies in Bloodborne, he proudly wears his hunter attire in this battle.

9. The Consortium

Not Your Chum

Hit Points 4,200 (6 Ropes Each With 700 HP)
Location Flotsam Vale

As a gamer, I can tell you that the unique challenge in “Another Crab’s Treasure” comes from the first boss encounter: The Consortium. You’ll find it in the early stages of Flotsam Vale, and let me warn you, it’s a doozy! The Consortium is a terrifying blend of octopus, crab, and otherworldly appendages, all entangled within a chilling Eldritch cage. It’s a fight that will leave you questioning your gaming skills!

In this scenario, you need to cut through six distinct ropes that keep the cage assembled, each having its own health meter. Hitting the internal parts or extra bits of the cage won’t cause any harm; instead, your objective is simply to free whatever is confined inside.

In order for Kril to approach and liberate The Consortium, there are numerous sharp evasions and powerful maneuvers needed to avoid attacks coming from its cage. As Kril strategizes the optimal moves, these include dodging many harsh swipes and crushing rolls.

This battle definitely has a case to crack the list of weirdest boss fight gimmicks ever.

8. Petroch

The False Moon

Hit Points 5,800
Location The Unfathom

In The Unfathom, the final boss, Petroch, is strategically positioned after a prolonged, murky, and puzzling journey through extensive exploration.

At the conclusion of our journey, what appeared to be a cozy shelter reminiscent of a campfire under the moon (Moon Cave) seemed to materialize, but instead it was Petroch, the colossal hermit crab, who appeared and used the structure as his shell.

Clearly, learning Petroch’s maneuvers may not pose the greatest challenge in the sea. It produces crystals that are relatively easy to avoid due to their predictable nature, features a jump attack with clear warning signs, and uses typical claw swipes.

Despite everything, finding Petroch at this moment, when the player needed a respite so badly, certainly justifies his inclusion in this place.

7. Pagurus

The Ravenous

Hit Points 3,750
Location The Sands Between

In the beginning of the game, you’ll come across Pagurus as a formidable character. But don’t worry, you won’t need to face him in battle until roughly halfway through the game’s storyline.

In the expanse of The Sands Between, Pagurus appears like an immense, terrifying creature, relentlessly pursuing Kril across various territories. When eventually confronted, Pagurus exudes a sense of legend and horror.

As I step into the game, I find myself facing off against Pagurus, who’s always a tough nut to crack. Whether it’s our initial skirmish or a later confrontation dictated by the storyline, he never disappoints in being formidable. Wielding a fork and knife, he can either skewer or saw through Kril, dealing heavy damage swiftly.

His health points are relatively low, yet there’s an amusing strategy to outsmart (or trick) him. However, if engaged head-on, Pagurus can be quite terrifying.

6. Roland

Venture Crabitalist

Hit Points 6,200
Location The Mouth Of The Drain

In the initial part of Another Crab’s Treasure, Roland, the isopod donning a top hat, functions as the principal adversary who provides a challenging conclusion to this section. His pirate-themed pinball machine transformed barge stands out as the most striking boss battle arena across the entire game.

Using his species’ unique ability to roll up like a pillbug, Roland tumbles nimbly across the stage, dealing swift blows to Kril that could lead to his destruction. Furthermore, with his multi-armed structure, he can eventually wield several Allen wrenches, using them as frenzied and unavoidable close combat weapons.

Although Kril doesn’t gain the gratification from physically defeating Roland, his captivating showdown nonetheless brings them both to the very edge of their limits.

5. Praya Dubia

The Ocean’s Agony

Hit Points Phase 1 – 3,000
Phase 2 – 3,000
Location Bottom Of The Drain

Coming up next is a challenging boss battle, Praya Dubia, which stands almost at the end of the game. This fight offers two distinct stages that you must conquer.

Or:

Next on the agenda is a tough boss encounter – Praya Dubia, one of the last fights in the game with two unique levels to overcome.

Or:

The next fight in the game is against Praya Dubia, a formidable opponent with two separate stages you’ll need to master.

Initially, Praya Dubia encounters Chitan, a chivalrous lobster who was previously responsible for security at Castle Slacktide, during his frequent journeys with Kril. Meanwhile, Kril must contend with swarms of crabs summoned by him while he gets opportunities to reduce Praya Dubia’s health points.

Meanwhile, Chitan continuously strikes with swift, energy-infused sword slashes while Praya Dubia showers down explosive energy bombs from on high.

In phase two, Chitan disappears, transforming the scenario into an intense near-apocalyptic fight for survival against Kril, reminiscent of a hellish battlefield, with the ghostly jellyfish as the adversary.

In this stage, there’s no requirement for fighting, as Praya Dubia’s intense screams gradually deplete its life force on their own. However, managing to survive amidst a constant barrage of lasers, explosives, and hazardous spikes makes it an exceptional and challenging late-game adversary.

Or:

In this phase, combat isn’t necessary because Praya Dubia’s final cries decrease its health naturally. But surviving for extended periods while continuously dodging numerous lasers, bombs, and traps makes it a rare and formidable late-game opponent.

4. Camtscha

The Bleached King/Reborn

Hit Points Phase 1 – 5,800
Phase 2 – 8,000
Location The Old Ocean

In the game, The Old Ocean and The Bleached City represent the toughest and riskiest territories. Towards their conclusion, you’ll face the two-phase event known as Camtscha.

In this rephrased version, I tried to maintain the original structure while making it more conversational and easy to read.

At the end, these disgraceful places call for a formidable adversary, and Camtscha certainly rises to the challenge.

Initially stationary, The Bleached King unleashes area-of-effect shock waves and toilet brush attacks persistently against Kril throughout the first phase. However, this phase takes a turn for the worse as Kril becomes susceptible to a “bleached” status effect, rendering his Umami abilities ineffective.

Following victory over phase one, Camtscha discards its faded hide, transforming into a fresh version of itself. This new form showcases a significantly more aggressive and agile set of abilities, joining the fray with renewed vigor.

To up the ante even further, his health points have skyrocketed to a staggering 8,000, making the overall health bar for this battle the most extensive among all enemies across the entire game.

3. Heikea

The Intimidation Crab

Hit Points 3,000
Location Expired Grove

Among the game’s bosses, Heikea stands out as the initial one with a formidable challenge, not due to an overly large health pool like many others in the list.

Yet, Heikea stands out as one of the formidable battles within Another Crab’s Treasure due to his powerful attacks that intimidate Kril, momentarily disabling him from counter-attacking, his early emergence in the storyline, and overall menacing presence.

Instead of having a distinct second stage, he splits his makeshift melee weapon (chopsticks) into two pieces once his health drops to 50%. This unexpected move makes him harder to anticipate and allows for a swift strike against Kril, catching him off guard.

As a gamer, I found this boss to be a pivotal moment in my gaming experience. If I struggle too much against it, I might consider tweaking the difficulty and accessibility settings to make the game more enjoyable for me. With these adjustments, Another Crab’s Treasure could become one of the best Souls-like games for newcomers like myself if I manage to overcome this challenge.

2. Firth

Avatar Of Waste

Hit Points Phase 1 – 5,000
Phase 2 – 5,000
Location Trash Island

In the game, Firth, our ultimate adversary, emerges from the narrative’s background, unveiling himself as Kril’s primary antagonist.

In total, Firth utilizes an impressive 10,000 horsepower during both phases, facing off against Kril and all of his abilities.

Primarily, it’s a straightforward contest between forks and spoons in the initial stage. However, during Firth’s phase transition, he becomes fully charged, unleashing Kril’s Umami power-ups – whirlpools of water and numerous tentacles attached to his shell, which are now used as melee weapons.

This battle serves as a perfect conclusion for Another Crab’s Treasure, yet another awaits with an even greater hurdle to overcome.

The final fight in Another Crab’s Treasure is quite fitting, but there remains one more that presents an even tougher obstacle.

1. Grovekeeper Topoda

Not Shrimping Around

Hit Points 3,500
Location Expired Grove

In keeping with the traditional pattern found in Soulsborne games where later bosses aren’t necessarily the most difficult, the greatest challenge presented by Another Crab’s Treasure is encountered earlier in the game, specifically within the Expired Grove.

Without a doubt, Grovekeeper Topoda is an optional battle, but it’s a must-do for players seeking the greatest challenge that Another Crab’s Treasure has to offer. This mantis shrimp, skilled in martial arts, ambushes any intruder daring enough to venture into his grove.

Topoda is capable of delivering powerful right hooks, a storm of swift punches, and whip-like tail slaps when attacking. He effortlessly shatters defensive moves, resembling a relentless spirit, and can conjure up a spinning sandstorm as cover to ambush from.

Beating Topoda in Another Crab’s Treasure isn’t necessary for the main storyline, but it triggers Topoda to grant Kril his powerful mantis punch adaptation and a feature that allows him to upgrade all other obtained adaptations using more Umami crystals as payment.
