Sources say LEGO is planning to release an official Yu-Gi-Oh set later this year. If confirmed, this would be LEGO’s third major collaboration with an anime series in just over six months.
LEGO bricks will be 77 years old in 2026. For over two decades, LEGO has successfully created sets based on popular licenses – meaning they make kits featuring characters and themes from franchises like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Spider-Man, Super Mario, Batman, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, and SpongeBob SquarePants. LEGO has partnered with almost every type of media, but anime has generally been the one exception – until very recently.
Fans Will Reportedly Get a Chance to Design LEGO’s Very First Yu-Gi-Oh Set
A reliable source says LEGO and Yu-Gi-Oh! are partnering up, starting with a LEGO Ideas contest. The winning design will become an official LEGO set. The insider suggests focusing submissions on the Duelist Kingdom and Battle City eras – think iconic duels, characters, or monsters. There’s also a limit of 2,000 pieces per submission, which means complex, large-scale builds like a full Hogwarts castle probably won’t be possible. Instead, designers should aim for detailed scenes or character displays.
LEGO Ideas Yu-Gi-Oh Contest Rumor Roundup

LEGO has explored anime-inspired sets in the past, including the Voltron set released in 2018 and a small Speed Racer line in 2008. However, these were one-off projects. In early 2025, LEGO began to show a greater interest in consistently partnering with anime brands, starting with the announcement of a Pokémon collection—revealed just this January—followed by the launch of a One Piece theme.
Recently Launched LEGO Sets Based on Hit Anime
- One Piece theme
- 6 sets launched in August 2025
- 6 more rumored for summer 2026
- Pokemon theme
- 3 sets coming on March 1, 2026
- 10+ more rumored for summer 2026
The LEGO One Piece sets are inspired by the recent Netflix live-action series, not the original anime or manga. However, they still celebrate Japanese animation and represent a significant shift for LEGO, which has typically been hesitant to create sets based on anime. This is even more noteworthy because LEGO is expected to release another collection of One Piece sets in the summer of 2026.
With new Pokémon sets on the way and potential partnerships with Yu-Gi-Oh!, it seems LEGO is more and more interested in long-term collaborations with anime series, instead of just trying them out once. However, this Yu-Gi-Oh! contest doesn’t necessarily mean a full product line is coming. The LEGO Ideas line is known for unique, experimental projects, and most of its sets are complex builds designed for display rather than active play, allowing designers to focus on intricate details and challenging construction.
