It’s not a mistake to read the headline. A fresh live-action remake of Resident Evil is underway. Take a moment to let that news settle in. Previous attempts at adapting this franchise into film have been less than satisfactory, but with the talent behind this project, it seems like the series may finally receive a worthy adaptation. At least, that’s what we can infer from the names involved.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the making of the film is entrusted to both Constantin Film and PlayStation Productions. It’s worth noting that PlayStation’s participation came as a shock to many, given that it’s based on a Capcom intellectual property.
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be following Zach Cregger’s upcoming project, which he’s both writing and directing. If you’re familiar with his work on Barbarian, you know he has a knack for horror films. This time, he’s teamed up with Shay Hatten, a talented writer who’s previously worked on John Wick 4 and Army of the Dead. The buzz around Cregger’s next film, Weapons, is high, thanks to its successful run with test audiences. Can’t wait to see it unfold!
Currently, four firms are engaged in a fierce competition to acquire the rights for the movie production. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix and Warner Bros. seem to be the frontrunners in this bidding process.
Based on our sources, Cregger has already conceived a plan for the project. He intends to create a horror movie that revives the original tone of the game series, reminiscent of the 90s releases. These early games were characterized by a strong survival horror atmosphere, markedly different from the more action-oriented games released recently.
