As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share that the much-anticipated Xbox console exclusive, Age of Empires 4, is making its grand entrance on PlayStation 5! The exciting news comes with a confirmed release date of November 4, 2025. This groundbreaking move marks Age of Empires 4 as the latest game to bridge the gap between these two gaming giants.
Over the past few years, it seems that the boundaries between gaming consoles have started to blur. While we’re not completely there yet, both Microsoft and Sony have shown a more flexible approach towards cross-platform games. Starting August 26, “Helldivers 2” will be available on Xbox Series X/S, and “Gears of War: Reloaded” will debut on PlayStation 5. It’s worth noting that even just a few years ago, the notion of a “Gears of War” game on PlayStation would have been unimaginable, but now it’s becoming a reality, hinting at the evolving landscape of console exclusives. Don’t forget that “Age of Empires 4” is also published by Xbox Game Studios.
Age of Empires 4 is Headed to PlayStation 5 in November
The reveal that “Age of Empires 4” will be available on PlayStation 5 occurred at Gamescom 2025, and it’s slated for release on November 4. This is approximately four years beyond its initial debut, but as they say, better late than never. In fact, PlayStation players received “Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition” earlier this year, which served as a prelude to the upcoming major event. This was around six years after its original release.
In addition to the unveiling of the PlayStation 5, an expansion titled “Age of Empires 4: Dynasties of the East” was also announced. This update features new variants of civilizations from “Age of Empires “, plus a fresh, single-player rogue-lite mode named “The Crucible”. The launch date for “Age of Empires 4: Dynasties of the East” is set on November 4 across all platforms, coinciding with the release day of the PlayStation 5.
As Age of Empires 4 continues to expand with additional content, there’s speculation that the franchise might have more offerings in store for us in the future. Last year, whispers hinted at potential Age of Empire games transitioning to Unreal Engine 5, but no concrete developments have surfaced yet. Considering the wide gap of 16 years between Age of Empires 3 and 4, it’s unlikely that fans will hear about a sequel anytime soon.
