As a gamer with a penchant for politics, I find this unique blend of gaming and political discourse intriguing. It’s not every day we see our representatives engaging in friendly virtual competitions while simultaneously discussing pressing issues that matter to us all.
In social media posts, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), popularly known as AOC, revealed her plans to revisit gaming platform Twitch for a friendly match of Madden NFL 25 against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D-MN), the Democratic vice presidential nominee. The games are scheduled to air on AOC’s Twitch channel on October 27, which is only nine days prior to Election Day in the United States.
As a gamer, I’m looking forward to the upcoming Madden NFL match between AOC and Gov. Walz, following close on the heels of US Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) taking part in a Twitch stream just days ago. On October 22nd, Sen. Sanders joined popular content creators like Valkyrae, Sykkuno, Pokimane, celebrities Mark Hamill and Mark Cuban for an engaging discussion on the Twitch platform about some of the pressing issues related to the 2024 presidential campaign. During this stream, Sen. Sanders addressed topics such as women’s rights, climate change, and making healthcare and higher education more affordable nationwide.
Despite endorsing Kamala Harris and Gov. Walz for their 2024 presidential bid, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will encounter Governor Tim Walz in a different setting. On October 27, at 3:00 PM Eastern, AOC will make her comeback to Twitch since 2023 to compete against Gov. Walz in the video game “Madden NFL 25.” The event will stream live on AOC’s Twitch channel. During the broadcast, they are expected to discuss their presidential campaign platforms and engage with US voters before Election Day. Notably, early voting has already started in some states such as New York and Minnesota, where AOC and Walz reside respectively.
AOC Takes On Gov. Tim Walz In Madden NFL 25
In contrast to AOC, who is recognized for playing games like Among Us and League of Legends, Governor Walz has a history with video games and football. Prior to his political career, Walz served as a defensive coordinator at Mankato West High School in Minnesota, where he assisted the team in winning the state championship in 1999. When it comes to gaming, Walz previously owned a Sega Dreamcast and the game Crazy Taxi, which he gave away in 2007 during his tenure as a US House Representative. It remains to be seen if Walz’s coaching background will prove beneficial in his future games against AOC.
In the past, live streams on Twitch by AOC have attracted large audiences, such as during her 2020 “Among Us” stream. It’s uncertain what topics the two Democratic Party representatives will discuss prior to Election Day.
