Apex Legends 2 Not In EA’s Plans; Company To Continue “Innovating” Current Game

As a dedicated Apex Legends fan with hundreds of hours spent looting, battling, and outwitting opponents across the Outlands, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and trepidation at the news from EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson. It seems like a Version 2 might not be in the cards for our beloved battle royale game, but instead, we’re looking at continued seasonal updates and innovative content to keep us engaged.

If you are hoping for EA to release Apex Legends 2, you might want to let go of that hope for now.

During a recent earnings discussion, EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson was queried about strategies for Apex Legends, as the player base has been gradually shrinking. One inquiry touched on the idea of completely overhauling the game and introducing Apex Legends 2.0, so to speak.

Wilson noted that in large-scale live service games, it’s rare for Version 2 to be as successful as Version 1. In other words, the initial version often outperforms subsequent updates or versions in such games.

Currently, our main goal is to maintain and strengthen our global player community while consistently providing fresh, creative content on a seasonal basis. At the same time, we aim to develop additional features without forcing players to lose their current progress or the resources they’ve already invested in our existing platform.

Afterwards, Wilson expressed that Electronic Arts (EA) aims to enhance the fundamental gameplay (core experience) of Apex Legends. He noted this has been observed as the game progresses through its seasons and expands.

He explained that they’re planning to alter the main ways of interaction within each season and create more chances for users to engage using various types of play, different from what the current primary function offers. Moreover, he mentioned that they can achieve both goals simultaneously without dividing the overall experience into separate parts.

Wilson added that he, along with the company, feel confident that Apex Legends is on an exceptionally promising trajectory. In particular, he highlighted the potential for the game to ascend to the pinnacle of its genre due to a robust brand identity, engaging mechanics, and a dedicated international fan base.

Although there are currently no plans to create an entirely new Apex Legends game, Wilson acknowledged that modifications to the existing game are necessary to maintain the community’s enjoyment and continued engagement with the game over the coming months and years.

As a dedicated enthusiast, I’ve noticed a significant call for transformative, purposeful innovations within the game that redefines its core play mechanics on a broader scale. Fortunately, our team is actively addressing this need and working tirelessly to bring about such changes.

Regarding the specific innovations they’re working on, those weren’t detailed. They simply emphasized that their team is actively addressing the issue.
