As a seasoned gamer with a decade under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the prospect of Apple and Sony joining forces! The idea of third-party controller support for the Vision Pro, particularly the PlayStation VR 2 controllers, is music to my ears.
According to a new update, it appears that Apple and Sony are teaming up to enable third-party controllers for the Vision Pro device.
At the start of 2024, as reported by Bloomberg, Apple initiated discussions with Sony to integrate PlayStation VR 2 controller functionality into their Vision Pro device. Additionally, they’ve been in talks with various third-party developers regarding the inclusion of external controller support for games on the VR platform. These controllers are not only expected to enhance gaming experiences on the Vision Pro, but also offer increased control over the system as a whole.
The report indicates that Apple and Sony intended to reveal compatibility between the Vision Pro and PlayStation VR 2 controller about a few weeks back; nevertheless, this announcement has been delayed due to an unspecified cause. Additionally, Sony faces another challenge: offering their VR controllers as independent accessories, because at present, they can only be obtained by buying the PlayStation VR 2 system. When the announcement is finally made, it appears that PS VR 2 controllers might become available for purchase from Apple’s physical and online stores.
